As a teacher in middle school. I have a high opinion of Khan Academy. If a kid wanted to learn all the content for 8th grade math they could get that education from Khan Academy. However, in my experience a 14-15 year old kids would rather do about anything else than go through a million math videos and answer as many questions. The role of the teacher is to steer the student’s attention to the thing that needs to be learned.

You don't start when they're teens. It's too late. Start when they're 7 to 10 and use rewards. Hugs, sweets, cash, whater it takes. Reward for points and badges and show genuine enthusiasm. My daughter finished high school with calc 1, 2, 3, linalg and diffeq credits from community college because of Khan academy starting in 4th grade. Would have worked even better with her older sisters but we didnt know about it then.

Khan Academy saved my kid’s education after divorce. Suddenly limited internet access but when it was available Khan Academy was there. Our kid could satisfy curiosity for math, science and history in endless patience that was nonjudgy. Khan Academy has such a great reputation that there was no objection. I was locked out of influencing our kid’s education but for that one suggestion to our kid to use Khan Academy to practice and understand math.. She is 20, and so sensible and knowledgeable, with confidence to follow her interests, and audio engineering is what she wants to do.

Audio is writing like any other - It's putting the mind on paper and reading it back to oneself. In the case of audio, tweaking some knobs and listening back to the adjustments. Were my instincts spot on or do I need to self-correct? I fed this video into my chat bot and when I asked it for its initial impressions of the interview one of the first things it said was “the interviewer seemed disinterested in the conversation”! I was surprised by this comment and asked the bot to elaborate. Apparently the interviewer did not look at the guest when we was talking, 82% of the time. Wow!! Feedback to the interviewer before he goes on to a career on TV 😂

Which implies this interviewer is probably not human!

Well, the pitch and tone of the interviewer doesn't help but.... he's old and experienced so that could make a difference to his tone. I would suspect the interviewer is interested but would like to retire from his career. Also, there's a generation gap in the vocals so AI might be comparing a more energetic young idealised person with an experienced hack. The interviewer may not look so he can listen instead. He may also be giving the interviewee time to connect with the audience so the interviewer does not detract from the tall, which is a professional interview technique. So the AI is probably full of xxxx.

This technology is only for gifted students that want to learn. It it is not much use for most that do not want to learn. For this real teachers who have been educated how to teach and motivate students are needed. This is even more important now with the advent of social media, which is completely distracting students.

What opportunities are afforded to those kids? Do you think kids with a sub par teacher will want to learn and excel? They are not even given the option gifted or not. @@jodi8076 Good points. In person teaching is the best. But if it is not possible, then Distance Education with real teachers is possible using many Apps like Zoom, MS Teams, and Google meeting. AI will never motivate students like a good human teacher can, this is because AI does not know what it is like to be human, so it can not empathize like a human can. Again AI is a great tool for those that are gifted and are self motivated. I am just concerned about the rest. It is important for everyone to be educated, not just the gifted.

I think one of the biggest benefits could be the data that is gathered around the most prompted questions by kids around various subjects. AI tools are designed and developed by those who went through the learning algorithm before AI was created. Just like calculators were invented by engineers who did their Maths with understanding and found them tedious. And masses of young learners found Math answers by learning the steps for keying into the calculator - with little or no understanding. So the basic question to ask by users of AI is, "How does it work?".

Every AI search engine that creates an essay, document, etc That could be used as a "term paper" and should be stored online and accessible for professors who can post a paper to compare. In Australia education is lacking if AI can teach our kids better or faster then by all means bring it on. Teachers here have a common personality disorder where they are very rigid and unfriendly to kids, they struggle to uplift as well as educate. They leave the profession in droves because they are disheartened by a system that is wrong and difficult and inhumane. Undoing the unnecessary damage schools are causing is too normal.

I could have graduated college at age 10 if I had a class size of 1. When you have 29 students you have to wait to 'Get It' for each subject, you slow down the ones that do on that subject. By the laws of math, 50% of teachers are below average.

Remember that seen in T2 where the mother is musing in her head how she sees the Friendly Terminator as being the perfect father replacement for her son? Just imagine how AI is going to be the tireless, the totally focused, totally analyzing and customizing to engage and fine tune its interaction with any student. It will know exactly where you are falling short, exactly where your weaknesses and strengths are. I myself am studying a second language. I have tried to find a focused teacher that senses where I am having trouble. It doesn’t even work for one on one teaching. So even without AI, I have mostly been self learning by watching KZbin videos and reading the accompanying text. I am sorry to disagree, but with AI, so many teachers are going to lose their jobs. Unless we artificially keep them around as more like baby sitters for the classroom. IMHO.

Nothing is free. AI is good for some applications, robotics and helping take care of the elderly or preventing accidents in vehicles. However it can also be dangerous in the sense that it disrupts the education industry and people loose their jobs. In order for the economy to work people, humans need to do things.
