Conosciuto sal in un concerto... mite e schivo.. un piccolo gigante dallo swing pazzesco!!!!

This is unbelievably fantastic - two of the all-time tenor men yellin' at each other for a good fifteen minutes, spewing the meanest of mean language at one another (in the most loving way)! Can't say enough how much this video/posting is appreciated.

Sal Nistico I've hear of and much little of as a recorded play since the sixties. Both Nistico and Landsmen were bottom line tenors of the period. Sorry I missed so much.

I wonder if Sonny Stitt ever locked horns with these chaps?

Sal nistico and stitt would be epic. I’m sure they hooked up at some point.

Steve told me an anecdote between him and Sonny Stitt which is too crude to mention. But they were friends.

Steve sounds pretty good here. Let's be honest Sal's reservoir of bebop vocabulary is so DEEP.

All this great playing and that's what you take away from it?

I also learned a lot about playing with hands or heart .. Btw I love Terra firma way out east do it time to smile etc etc have virtually all steve’s records and saw him live 100 times and even played his saxophone..never met or heard Sal live on the other hand but on this he reached me.what a legend.. The pure nature of a two tenor band is always going to be gladiatorial by nature ..and trust me Steve will not take prisoners

@freddylebanon I'm happy that you got that experience. I myself was Steve's friend. I Studied with Steve, played with Steve, tried his mouthpiece and his tenor of that time. So, I guess we were both fortunate

@@kennethvenezia4400 me and my old man used to fix his saxophone when he hit London. Early 90s …got to play his mouthpiece too. He told me it was a special creation of Francois Louis I think it was Otto link but he had the rails replaced with the lower half of a different model of the same kinda mouthpiece.a hybrid ..let’s monk ringing in my ears 😂
