DB Super's Multiverse - What's NEXT?

We've been introduced to Dragon Ball's multiverse almost a decade ago with Battle of Gods, but Super didn't do too much with it. Could we expect some multiversal stories soon, or is the multiverse dead in the water? Today, we discuss the great potential of the multiverse, and how I feel its been squandered so far, as well as what may come next!

They could make advantage of Android 17’s wish at the end of the tournament of power: wishing everyone back, which would explain why a villain isn’t present before, such as why they were erased because there was a huge threat in those erased universes (not angels or destroyers otherwise that would mean Goku and Vegeta would receive some random power-up). They could also explore their past as Beerus and Champa, explaining how they got separated or even their home planet. (yes, I know these are’t original ideas but they are good ideas)

Honestly? I totally agree with you. The question though, is HOW?!?! The "best" idea I can think of is to create multiple additional manga/anime series, that take place in the other universes. NOT fully-fleshed anime series, like DBZ/Super/Etc. but just one-season 13-episode series, that you only find out happen in one of the DB-aligned universes near the end. These single-season-series are just SUCH an easy way of exploring and setting up lore in each of the other universes! You can talk about other Worlds, Universes, Aliens, Gods, Angels, Demons, etc. and the way those things interact with each other. Have one be a "horror" comic, another be a "suspense" comic, another be a "detective" comic, etc. etc. even an Idol Comic! And each of those different worlds only interact with one another later-on, in the last few episodes of the series. You might be able to tell because of some of the worlds, or the Art-style, or any of a dozen other reasons that might make you suspect that they are DB-related... But this allows the various series to actually stand on their own first. Any of those series that are successful? Guess what? New IP! And lore, and world-building all at once. Those that AREN'T successful? Well it was a limited series, you didn't lose much, and you have STILL brought additional Lore into the larger connected universe. And then later-on, you can bring them BACK by starting another cross-universe tournament, or multi-universal threat (Like Heroes), and drum up some hype for some of those limited series that by then only have a small dedicated cult following. It's really the BEST way to explore some new IP, build the world, grow the franchise, and make even MORE money...

it really bothers me how everyone forgets the fact that there were four universes exempt from the tournament of power simply due to the fact that their average power level was TOO HIGH FOR THE TOURNAMENT, like legit 1/3rd of the entire Dragon Ball franchise, the third that is cannonically the most powerful portion of the multiverse, is ENTIRELY UNEXPLORED... we know absolutely nothing about the four strongest universes in the series, there could easily be tens if not hundreds of mortals stronger than Jiren in any of those four universes.

We've seen what happens to Angels when they break the rules thanks to the manga, and we know that the Angels are spared when a universe is destroyed, so what happened to the Angels of the deceased six universes? Maybe they could elaborate more on that for us. I'd also like to see the counterparts of the main cast from other universes if they have one; we've already seen for Frost and Broly.

I really hope they take advantage of Androids 17 wish, they could literally bring anyone like Bojack, Janemba, Cooler, DBZ Broly, new characters, link Super to GT or even in the last episode of Dragon ball have a Vegito and Gogeta from different universes fight each other or something, they could go all crazy with the world building

There's also one little theory i have, I know it's pretty much never going to happen but i enjoy thinking about it. What if the Tournament Of Powers final wish to "Revive all of the other universes" actually brought back universe 13-18? I don't know if it's cannon in manga but I know in the anime it was mentioned that there used to be a total of 18 universes but Zeno destroyed six of them long ago. I love thinking about the possibility that maybe Zeno destroyed these universes because they had evil people who were too powerful and couldn't be contained, maybe villains even able to kill the angels who used to watch over those universes. And maybe the wish to revive all universes brought those 6 old universes back and now Goku and Vegeta have to figure out how to defeat villains who have killed literal Angels.

Honestly, and this is just an idea, I'd like a season where the main group gets separated between the universes. This would give an excuse to have them fight foes and friends alike with similar or slightly higher power levels, while also allowing the universes to be expanded upon. Because let's be honest, we aren't going to have a long arc in Dragon Ball without their being fights. For purposes of spreading things out, I'm going to mostly focus on two " Main People" per universe Yamcha and Tien would get sent to either universe 1 or 12, aka the ones with the highest mortal levels. Gohan and Videl would get sent to Universe 2. (You know, the one with the 3 Lovely Maidens) where they'd enjoy the worlds love based culture, and eventually having to fight a villain, winning, very fittingly, through the power of love Master Roshi and Piccolo, would go to universe 4, where Roshi would teach them a lesson after being disappointed in their heavy use of trickery. Goten, Trunks, and Vegeta (I said mostly 2 okay) would go to Universe 6, where Vegeta and Cabba would go to Planet Sadalla, and Goten and Trunks would meet Kale and Caulifa, eventually showing them and teaching them the fusion dance, sparking a Fusion fueled Fight between them. Krillian and 18 would go to universe 10, where Krillian would try to prove himself as a good strong husband after getting jealous from someone flirting with 16, only for at the end it for it to reveal that she was never interested, and it was just Krillians doubts playing tricks on him. And of course, Goku and Broly would go to universe 11, most of the episodes would be centered around this one. What do you think?

**STORY IDEA** So basically someone would wish for something really disastrous using the super dragon balls, but there was a way to reverse the wish by finding something like some gems that are planted inside each universe and they are guarded by really powerful aliens and if they are all put together, it would reverse all the effects of the wish.

I know one original character I made was a guy named Eis ( German for ice ). His race is called Glacins( a pun on glacier ). From the planet subterra ( pun on subzero). Their race have blueish skin with elf like ears. Their hair is ether blue or white and their eyes are blue that have a faint glow to them. They have resistance to cold climates and can use Cryo-kinesis. He’s from universe 8 and is a G.O.D candidate for Liquiir. He does have ki based techniques but mainly uses ice based attacks. He’s not evil or anything.

To be honest I think dragon balls world building has always been lack luster, think about it, namek was just a boring location with barely any history and most of that history is actually added after z was over. Dbz earth is very inconsistent, when's the last time we've seen a animal human in z, because I genuinely can't remember, also the fact that we didn't get to even see yardrat until super was very disappointing. Z's world building is very bad compared to other anime like one piece, or even a mid series like fairy tail, so of course the other universes wouldn't be dived deep upon, toriyama has done that the whole series. We barely got see different interesting and unique locations from earth before going to boring namek, then the Earth's charm was lost and gone after the Frieza arc. Then during the Majin Buu arc toriyama introduced the never heard of demon realm which still hasn't gotten a canon arc centered on it, also with toriyama introducing the kaioshin realm which looks exactly like earth but with more stars in the sky.

I feel like the 12 universes were just made as throwaway plot points to make more arcs, villains, heroes, Etc… The other 11 universes from 7 could have been used for so much more but just got thrown out the window and the whole show just forgot about the other universes, rather than expanding on them in even the slightest.

You make a lot of points there, because 17's wish didn't affect just the universes that participated in the Tournament of Power; it's possible it affected the other 6 which were erased long before then. Since you brought up Universe 6 quite a bit, and I kind of like Caulifla and Kale quite a lot, that got me thinking: What if Kakarot was sent to Universe 6's Planet Sadala? I've seen quite a bit of artwork of him and Caulifla being a couple, so...

I think many people want this but there is a problem there are many Universes and making a deep story and world building with all of them will take a lot of time and effort which means a ton of episodes kinda like one piece in terms of episode count. Now yes exploring other characters we know about will be interesting and fun like lord beerus and kaaba and many more maybe they can do 5 episodes focused on how beerus became a god or his life in general but this is kinda hard I am a new fan of DB so I could be wrong here but for the entirety of this show we have focused on a major character in some kind of way but branching off to another character and another and another will divert attention away from our main cast which can be good but also it will not really feel like dragon ball it will feel like a new show which can be fine but also not . There is just a lot to think about with this.

1:06 to 3:17 This is Why I feel that the idea I had a while back could be a thing, Universe 6 as the Main cast instead of Universe 7 Could Provide a unique take on the Multiverse If you're reading this Salad, Here is the Idea What If Universe 7 was Universe 6? Instead of the main Dragon cast and Universe 7 being part of the main story, What would happen if the main cast of Universe 6 followed the story instead? Not only could we stick with Universe 6 as the main universe, but we could also add planets, characters and storylines from universe 7 to make it follow the story of Dragon Ball while making it a completely different story in the process with Planet Sadala and how universe 6 works. EX. --------------- Frost turns good as he fights Cooler in the ressurection F saga. The tournament of Destroyers would pit the main cast of universe 6 fight against A mix of Universe 7's Saiyans and the Frieza Force (Bardock, King Vegeta, Frieza and King Cold as well. Unique universe 6 variations of movie and DBZ, DBS, GT, and SDBH characters (EX. Cooler, Cell, Baby, Slug, Cumber, Trunks Etc.) Many versions of this what-if could be implemented like GT and Xenoverse

3:09 even so the argument isn't valid too much as you cannot find much reasons to care about Super if in the end it's just "The Goku Show" none of the side or even recently introduced characters have much of an impact if Goku is just there to one shot the bad guy. Really this is why Super compared to Z isn't good, the retcons, the shift in tone, most of the hard work/effort being invalided by a different means.. I just don't like it. Even DBM the manga also acknowledges this fact and chooses not to consider Super canon, rather they'd go the post-GT route which is up to SSJ5, imo that's fine. But unfortunately as much as the spin off mangas are read to us on KZbin like the female saiyans being given a training arc since I know that one of them wants to learn SSJ3 that was interesting but... it's still meh. Even Hachiyach from Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans is more interesting.

I agree that they should explore the other universes and expand on their lore but I think what they could do is make the new characters or characters that they introduce in Super the main protagonist while having Goku and Vegeta as side characters in order to further develop the new characters which can also bring tension to the story because of the uncertain fate of the new characters; the Granolah arc and s a good example because Granolah is the main protagonist in his story while Goku and Vegeta play more of a side role while also having the villains be more tied to Granolah as a character than others. They can make an arc that has characters like Hit, Cabba, Jiren, or new characters that can have their own stories explored with new villains and lore while having them going on character driven stories that develop them further. Dragon Ball has already shown that they don't need to rely on Goku or Vegeta to tell a story and focusing on new characters is what made Dragon Ball Z great at it's stories.
