From QuotaPath: OTE stands for On-Target Earnings. Your OTE is the amount of money you can expect to earn if you hit 100% of your quota. This number is usually given in an annual figure. For example, a sales job posting might say “$90,000 OTE”. This number is sometimes rounded to an even earnings number for convenience. For example, your true OTE might be $90,240 but you might be told that it is $90k for simplicity.

@@emilyau8023 I’m not sure what I said implied that hitting her OTE was guaranteed. I said the $150k, which is her BASE SALARY is guaranteed. She is given $300k OTE on a 50/50 split. By definition the $150k is guaranteed if she is remotely competent at doing her job. It’s the same as any other job. If you’re not remotely competent, then the company certainly has grounds to let you go too. Yes this job has a high turnover rate, but the turnover rate is higher than other positions not simply due to layoffs or firings, it’s also the sales person themselves jumping ship to more competitive offerings.

I work near where you guys were interviewing people and I love what you do! ❤ I know everyone says you need to make a crazy high salary to live in the NYC area but that hasn't been my experience. I just moved from Florida to the area for a job based in midtown Manhattan. But I chose to live just over the river on the NJ side. I commute one hour door to door in office once a week and work remotely for the rest. By living on the NJ side I avoid NYC taxes on my paycheck (just state and federal taxes). I live by myself in a small modern one bedroom apartment with a private terrace for $2100 a month, parking is $150 a month for an assigned spot in my building's parking garage, my gas+electric bill is about $130 a month, and I spend roughly $100 a week on groceries and I feel like I could even cut that down if I wanted to. I make $90,000 base plus 8-10% bonus and I feel pretty well compensated! I'm able to save a good chunk of money each month.

Great video just wish people will go more into detail about their expenses. I’m a New Yorker 39 years old been making average 11,000 a month net income which is about $175,000 gross a year, for the past 5 years. My expenses are out of control no matter how hard I try. I live with my mom to save money on rent since she has a rent stabilizer apartment. I do have 3 children with everything included my expenses are $6,500 a month. You might be thinking not too bad u can save $3500 a month, wrong some unexpected expense always tends to creep up on me. Example overspent on credit car, car breaks down, children need things, my car get booted or a ticket. Realistically to be financially free in NYC I recommend you make $20,000 a month of net income. These means u can hopefully save half your income. Best advice I can give is that you been lied to your whole life. When people always said don’t worry you still young reality is you are not. You need to start building your empire early in life so when you reach your 30s you are financially set. PS I got an electric scooter best investment ever saves me time and hundreds on gas.

I am from Germany and here it’s always portrayed that the wages in the US, especially in NYC and surrounding metropolitan areas, are so much higher than German/European wages. But actually wages seem to be somewhat comparable, to where I live at least. I do have a law degree and soon will start my trainee program (I am a little less than three years away from finishing my education and working full time) and I already make about € 40k with my part time job. After that, entrance wages for first year lawyers in bigger firms and with a more corporate setting are around 100k to 150k. You make enough where it’s easy to live on your savings for a year or more before you find your next sales job. And there will always be sales jobs. So I wouldn’t say it’s as risky as you think.
@emilyau80234 ай бұрын
@ruchieru sales has always been a high-risk career compared to other roles. You are only as good as your last sale. They are the most likely to be laid off, and you wouldn't have to drain your savings if you had a more stable job. A person needs something to fallback on if they're in a risky role like sales. Since the entry is so low, you will be around less intelligent people, and the ones who stick around are who you compete against.

@@emilyau8023 I think this is also highly dependent on the type of sales. I disagree that “low entry” can be applied to all types of sales, including how risky it is. A more stable type job that pays less is more likely to drain your savings faster if you were laid off.

This is why people don’t want to share what they make. Most people feel they are not paid enough no matter what job, career or field. If you feel you’re under paid then look for another job. As long as you work for someone they control your pay. As an Entrepreneur I control my pay, but I also work longer hours because I’ve got more at stake. Also people that work for me have different skill levels I pay based on the value the person brings. I can have two people that have a different work ethic and experience levels. I compensate well to those that are proficient at what they do, reliable and ambitious.
