I am sysop on a server (somewhat small, maybe 300 active players) and basically every staff member has * perms. Admin just distinguishes sysops from people with ban perms. There's a full record of all commands and actions of staff, and I coded a supplementary plugin that can rollback specific actions (moreso than general essentials) to prevent abuse. Malicious staff are dealt with quite easily (have had 3-4 who've gone off the rails). Limiting perms like that does not do anything substantial if you have competent admins.

There was a server I once played on for about a day or two. It was an 'rpg dungeon crawler survival server" it was regular vanilla minecraft with like, plugin enemies in dungeons. However, vanilla weapons kinda didnt work against the plugin enemies. So you had to use the plugins to get better gear and stuff. Not only was it horribly explained, we figured out it was insanely p2w. You could basically pay for crates to get better weapons and enchants for them. And the only way to do stuff in the servers like, actual entire gimmick, was to pay lmao I got banned after.I pointed out to the owner that the p2w stuff broke EULA I don't remember the server IP, but i hope someone like Duper or Sal finds it someday and I get to watch it tank

fun thing is i used to play on snapcraft mostly prison and i know a lot of things that could have made this easier 1. players across servers exchange values and i remember when i used to sell 1k on kitpvp i would get like 1 bil or more on prison 2. you used to be able to shift click sell items on npc's to actully sell a full stack (i dont know if they changed it) 3. you where able to trade with people in game currency for store items 4. it was actully possible to become one of the best players on the server without spending a single irl coin even i became baltop 1 and was one of the most known prison players for a looooong time and i didnt spend any irl cash 5. the server admins are slow they took over 1 week to find out a money glitch and patched it in a month after 6. players afk in weird spots are waiting for a vote key drop which happens when i think its 150 votes has been passed and each person could vote 5 times and this feature was server wide 7. most baltop doesnt matter if its outside of prison since prison everything is about money but people hide it in their "guild/team" vault like i did not to attract beggers 8. u can spectace other players inventory with a command (i dont remember if you needed a rank for that or not) /seeinv [playername] or something like that 9. the admins dont have spectator accounts they are required to only use their mains to actully be able to do commands and stuff and report/ban/time out players 10. the admins are incompetente and dont know anything about coding they are just regular players with a lot of ego and time played on the server 11. i dont nessesarely think its p2w but more p2pf as in pay to progress faster but i see your point and im not defending the server since i dont play there anymore and most of the mods and admins are jerks the owner martin is nice enough tho (sometimes)

I know of a p2w server named pebblemc that sells ranks, items that give buffs like regen and features like sit and feed. I tried reporting the server to mojang but the staff team claimed the reports are false lol
