So good to see these old shows, they remind me of my very happy childhood. And thank you for including the adverts too. Vauxhall Chevette! Wow!

David St.John went on to become a serial game show contestant participating in no less than 34 quizzes. He is now a comedian performing in and around Birmingham. Reverend Canon Terence Sampson has since retired from Ministry and lives in San Miguel with his wife where he is Honorary Assistant Priest for the Church of England Chaplaincy of St Peter and Paul in Torrevieja (Spain).

"Sale of the Century" has got to be one of the most well-traveled formats in game show history. What has interested me the most from this UK version is the slightly adjusted question value of 3 pounds for a correct answer (I'm more familiar with the 5 dollar stake from the US/Aussie version). I get the feeling that Instant Bargains carry a bit more weight in the UK: the first one on offer here is for 15 pounds, the equivalent of five questions and a serious threat to the lead score. The same value in the US version is usually only a three-question difference and may or may not affect the game's outcome, depending on how well everyone's playing. (Pastor buys wine for 16) And there you go! He just went from a serious contender to seriously in the doghouse. The US version could have some brutal battles, but they almost never took a shot like this. Most exciting!

And a score of 15 to start with instead of 20 like other versions.

Nice video, but you cut off the most important bit - the Anglia ident with the knight on a horse, followed by ‘…and now, from Norwich… it’s the QUIZ OIF THE WEEK!’ Not the same without it :-)

Of course, the UK came up with it first. Y’all seem to really develop great shows for American consumption.

Notice at the introductions to the three contestants, the marital status of all three was part of their introduction. The obession whether someone was married or not back then is interesting. If a man was unmarried, these gameshows tended to infer they were gay.
