We will never get those days back again. i well remember sittintg in front of the telly with my family, watching shows like this, and 3.2.1 [with Ted Rodgers], The Golden Shot {with Bob Monkhouse}, The Generation Game [with Bruce Forsyth, and then Larry Grayson], New Faces [which was the Britain's Got Talent of the day - along with Opportunity Knocks]. Then we would watch Saturday Night at the London Palladium], and many more. Those days are gone now...forever. In reference to Nicholas Parsons [ who has sadly died now], he starred in an episode of Dr Who, alongside Sylvester McCoy.

The pace of that show by today's standards is mind blowing. Today ee would have 6 recaps, lots of pauses for suspense and a couple of long goodbyes to make the show into an hour long snoozefest.

I remember seeing the series here as of course it was shown on the ITV network I think on a Friday night at 7.00pm if I remember rightly so too. I live in the London area so it was just after Thames then became LWT at the time. The famous Anglia knight ident so then too. Also, if this was 1983, I think alas that this was the last series of it that they did then, it having started in 1971 so I read before so too. I guess that they decided to end it there so then too. Thank you!

It was, partly due to the BBC on strike, as Commercial TV the only channel on air at the time, but it was the most watched show for one week in August 1978, about 22 million, 33% of the national population. I worked close to the studios, the cars came from the local Mann Edgerton Car dealership next door to Norwich Railway Station where I worked. Great days. Sadly just a local news studio to the ITV Network now.

I wonder who holds the record for highest score in a single episode of British Sale of the Century. And I see they still had the rule where any contestant whose score was reduced to zero was out of the game. By this time, the Australian and American versions eliminated that rule (that is, contestants whose score was reduced to zero could still play).
