Totally agree. It starts from the top and not something that can be delegated.

Absolutely agree. MD support is critical for an effective and energetic S&OP process. Without is it becomes a business review process, good for communication and sharing but not really an S&OP. I have seen it in action both ways.

As Steven says, it's a meeting for 'decisions'!

I agree that the Managing Director needs to take ownership and ensure each function is fully participating, takes the process seriously and owns their inputs to the SIOP process

No wonder my previous company's S&OP did not work! it was run by Service BU SCM, it was only monthly meetings to discuss financialized high risk problems where barely any decisions were taken and the input was more guess than data. It was surprising for me to discover and attend Production BU S&OP meetings with suppliers where more or less was the same, a monthly meeting to discuss pending topics. I almost though I was the one crazy after continuously reporting this does not look nothing like S&OP in my extremely short understanding of the matter. Little by little I am sure i was right. Question for the experts: is this sort of "I have seen a couple of slides" or "some consultant has talked to me about S&OP" then I implement something and call it S&OP, usual? I am not talking about a small company, it was a company listed in the stock exchange...

In my experience, very few companies do it well. The big name FMCG Companies are usually good.

I totally agree with the answer given that it comes down to leadership. Note: Feedback for the leaders of this channel, be aware of the speech you use. MD’s can also be female. Otherwise
