Salesforce admin or consultant... Which is better to do first?
I recommend you learn the fundamentals of being a Salesforce admin before you become a consultant.
As a consultant, you'll be asked a million questions and you're expected to know each answer (or at least know how to figure it out).
Here's the definition of a consultant:
"A person who provides expert advice professionally"
So learn the basics as a Salesforce admin before you become an expert for someone else's business.
It's all a progression. You have to start with a bunch of challenges and things that'll make you a better admin.
And then you can move on to become a consultant when you know the Salesforce platform even more!
Let me know your thoughts...
Should you be a consultant or admin first?

Yeah man, I'm glad I can help out. Marketing Cloud is the best area of Salesforce to get into. It's also one of the top 3 fastest growing Salesforce products in the world right now, so if you learn it, you'll be in HIGH demand.

Thanks for the double upload yesterday! Just wondering - do you think being an admin/consultant is timezone-specific? I really would like to travel while working post-pandemic. My current job (not yet in Salesforce) is 100% remote, however, I think I'm limited to the North/South Americas timezones because most clients are in North America. Yes, I can technically work in Europe/Asia, but I really wouldn't want to work in the middle of the night over there.
@MinuteAdmin
@MinuteAdmin 3 жыл бұрын
Happy to provide multiple uploads! All of the timezone specific work depends on the company you work for and what their agreements with clients are. If you're going to work for a company and they work in multiple timezones, I'd ask if you're going to be expected to work late at night for clients that are overseas. If that's not something you want to do, then I'd let them know that and don't take the position if you aren't comfortable with it. Lots of companies won't make you work odd hours, but then there are those companies that would want you to be available early mornings or late nights. It all depends on the company, I wouldn't say its Admin or Consultant specific. If you're working as a consultant, it's more likely that you'll be working with clients around the world. But if you're an admin, you're more than likely on the end-user side, and you'll be working your company hours in whichever country you're working in.

@@MinuteAdmin Thank you! I And you're right, I guess it depends on how much you'd need to interact with clients and the company. In your own experience as a consultant, do you often interact with people who need an immediate response? Again, still talking about timezone differences here. Another video idea could also be talking about how consultants bill clients, etc. I have so many questions!
@MinuteAdmin
@MinuteAdmin 3 жыл бұрын
@@lnejavi A lot of times you'll be expected to respond withing 12 to 24 hours of anyone asking you questions. Although it's best to reply as soon as you can (It just shows a high level of professionalism). You'll have to become a master at planning in your calendar because once people know that you're busy with other work, then they'll leave you alone and let you work. You don't want to be putting out fires and answering questions all the time when you could be implementing solutions for clients. So that's why it's so important to have everything planned out. You'll take your professionalism to the next level if you're a consultant working in different time zones. It will require you to step up your communication skills and calendar skills. I can come out with more videos to talk about being a consultant and how to thrive in the industry!

Thanks a lot for the content man! I am seriously considering this job. I am having currently a training and looking forward to salesforce admin cert. one thing i wanted to undertsand is that as an admin, you do the backend work which is set up, creating and stuff like that for the users of a certain org or company. is that correct?

I don't even know the "C" Of coding. Tell me how is Salesforce Adminjon is going to help me, as work of Salesforce admin can also ne done by Salesforce developer?
@MinuteAdmin
@MinuteAdmin 2 жыл бұрын
Salesforce Developers are great, but sometimes they go straight to coding solutions that can be built through "Declarative Clicks" and the solution can be hard to fix if they end up leaving a company. Not every developer does this, but it's good to know the foundation of Salesforce as an Administrator before you start writing code in Saelesforce. There are TONS of jobs looking for Salesforce Admins as well as Developers. You have to broaden your horizons and look at companies that want both and understand how you can provide value in their company with your technical skills and people skills. It's an art to landing good jobs, and all you really need to do is research the companies that are looking for admins and then research how to do well in job interviews. It's a learning process, but very doable.

how much do consultants earn? and where do they get their clients mostly?
@MinuteAdmin
@MinuteAdmin Жыл бұрын
It depends on 2 things: The cloud you know - Marketing Cloud, Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, CPQ, Commerce Cloud, etc... And your ability to explain what you know about the cloud you're interviewing for. (and your ability to negotiate salary). But mostly, I've seen consultants making anywhere between 85K - 120K USD per year.

Which certs do you have and what order do you recommend completing these?
@MinuteAdmin
@MinuteAdmin 3 жыл бұрын
I have SF Admin, Sales Cloud Consultant, MC Email Specialist, MC Admin, Pardot Specialist I'd recommend getting either the Salesforce Admin cert or Marketing Cloud Email Specialist cert first (It's up to you which route you want to take) I tell people to do Marketing Cloud because there's less competition which means you'll be in higher demand and probably get paid more than a SF Admin (due to the demand). But if you're going down the route of SF Admin, then get the admin cert first, then Advanced Admin cert, then Platform App Builder. I'll probably come up with a video to answer this question too. Hopefully that helped.

@@lnejavi yeah I’d do Email Specialist before MC Admin. MC Admin tests you on how well you know how to configure and setup Marketing Cloud and troubleshoot issues. Email Specialist tests you more on your overall knowledge of Email Studio, Automation Studio, and Journey Builder.
