Martineli lack of strength means he can not be a focal man upfront. So he is better off coming in from the wings than being stock in the middle. He can start at the wings and occasionally switch play with the strikers in attack situations to evade man marking and so on. Arteta knows all this.

Saliba looks very solid indeed. He is more physical than Ben White. White is indeed better on the ball and with passing distribution. But in EPL physicality and power do matter when you play against strikers like Kane / Ronaldo/ Halland etc

I think Mikel will probably start Eddie, Jesus and Bukayo against Palace. As you mentioned we've looked more dangerous with the 2 of them close together. They can also interchange seamlessly because Jesus is comfortable on the sides as well.

I dont know if the squad is too big or not. We will playing more games this season and (hopefully) next season in Champions League. We need to see how the squad holds up and cover for rotating players. No need to start labeling players during the preseason. I find it ironic that fans and journalist all ask for more transfers in and now we are talking about "extra" players. Dont make the same mistake as what we did with Serge Gnabry. We can "designate" players that would be better served on loan, but dont clamor for more winter signings when we have plethora of players now before we sell off the players we have now. Most players wouldnt want to come in when they will need to sit on the bench. We still need to run a business that can turn a profit. Look at Barcelona. They have 8 world class forwards sitting on the bench eating up payroll when they, at most can only play 3.

Saliba comes in, then White at RB(Inverted) covering for injured Tomiyasu...Saliba is very good and strong, l love his tactical awareness and area prowess. However, White ahead of him in terms of ball mobility, carriages and long balls distribution. He hasn't play in the premier league yet against the top strikers. I think when everyone is fully fit, Arteta's center back pairing still remains White and Gabriel.
