From what we found, the snorkel hadn't failed. The Water, Mud and bits of smashed plastic from the snorkel grill came from the top 😬🙈
@m4drx2 жыл бұрын
I’ve had similar on my d2. It’s the woven fabric coupler between the air box and snorkel. If submerged, water gets through it. It’s not easy to get that much water through the top. Also happens if you don’t locate the air box lid perfectly over the filter which seals it or if you have missing clips, which most seem to. Only a few quid from Land Rover.
@Robert-cu9bm2 жыл бұрын
@@m4drx You need to silicon all joints.

@@Robert-cu9bm I have done mate and added a few layers of waterproof tape around for good measure. No water or mud in the air box since and it’s been about 4 years of laning trips to Wales, Salisbury etc.
@Robert-cu9bm2 жыл бұрын
@@m4drx 👍 What people don't realise when they have one is that they're not a "snorkel" they're a high air intake. The standard airbox isn't designed to be submerged in water. Best to get a aftermarket aluminium one and make sure all joints are sealed correctly. That amount of muddy water isn't coming through the top, that's leaking in through the joints.
@somersetmudrunnerstd5owner1462 жыл бұрын
Gray you need to turn you snorkel to face back man as that how all that shit got in your air box
@littlebull88812 жыл бұрын
Nah it would of come through the joints of the snorkel, most people don't silicone them and that's the result of not. Nice Aluminium snorkel is best for muddin with the D2.

Hi Vinnie, somehow we missed replying to you :( our apologies As Little Bull said bellow it’s more of a seal issue. In grahams case it’s just the seal between the air box lid and body, everything else is most defiantly sealed. The design of the air intake on the d2 was piss poor in my opinion. On my truck(big blue) I have a custom snorkel and air box.

All your videos are brilliant ! What lift and tyres do you have on the d2’s ? I have a 1999 d2 that is a daily driver but looking to use it off-road on the weekends too ! And I’m looking for inspiration in the lift/tyres area.
@4WDUK3 жыл бұрын
The gray d2 (Dora) is on 37” tyres in this video, 3” suspension lift and 2” body lift. The green d2 has 35” tyres and a 4” suspension lift. The blue d2 has 32” tyres with a 2” suspension lift. All depends on what you’re planning to do with the vehicle on how far you go. Our little blue d2 will get 95% of places if you push it 👌🏻

@@4WDUK thank you for the information !!!! Somewhere between Dora and the party bus I think 🤔 then I can still drive to work every day but also triumph in the lanes on weekends 👍
@mikeb533 жыл бұрын
@@Oneeyeben4wduk For the vast majority of lanes or general 4x4ing a 2" lift and 32" wheels are more than sufficient. While opinions may vary, I personally would not want to use a D2 with 35" knobbly tyres and a 4" suspension lift as a daily driver. You might as well commute in Tractor it will be pretty much the same thing. If you go larger wheels and higher lift, you are going to need to spend a lot more money. There's an adage for every inch you go over 2" that's an extra grand per inch. As you'll need to correct the castor and radius arms. and the drop links. You will need longer brake hoses and possibly extending the wiring for the ABS sensors to accommodate the flex of the axles. As for tyres, you can go up to 5% bigger than standard without too much issue. 29" is standard on a D2. if you put 32" tyres you are going to notice its a lot slower. If you go even bigger you are going to need minimum of a stage 1 remap to make it drive worth a damn and if yours is an automatic then you can't put more than 380NM safely though that autobox and the standard Td5 Torque converters are not the best either, if its manual go for a stage 2 that means making changes to that exhaust and also, you may need to change the gear ratio of the transfer box too. Normal ratio on the D2 is 1:1.2 so you're going to need to get the transfer box on 1:1.4 like a Defender or even 1:1.6. Its a big job and you have to budget for it as its not cheap to get everything you need for it, and know what needs doing, simply raising the suspension and putting fat tyres on is just the tip of the iceberg really.
