1952 Buick Roadmaster Rivera
It has a driver side power seat, power windows, Fireball Straight 8 engine and a Dynaflow Transmission. There is a small tear on the passenger side of the front seat. The driver side power window only goes up when the passenger side window is going up as well. We believe it is a grounding issue or a master switch. The odometer turns and seems to be working fine. The windshield wipers work intermittently.

That distinctive roar of the Dyna Flow as the car drove off. That was so distinctively Buick in the early 50s. The Roadmaster was top of the line. Just as nice as a Cadillac, for a whole lot less coin.

My understanding is that "Riviera" denoted a no-post hardtop. Buicks with a post between front and rear windows were referred to as sedans, either 2-door or 4-door.

My family bought one exactly like this except for paint colors, manual windows and seat. I came of driving age in its time. This car is not a Riviera. That designation was for pillarless two-door and convertible models. These cars were painfully slow off the line, but decently powerful over 20 mph. And they got terrible gas mileage. Because of the smoothness of the Dynaflow, these were used as camera dolley cars. (Some like that might be found in CA still.)

model 72 r Roadmaster 4dr and 52 r super 4dr came out in 1950. they are properly termed Riviera sedans.

The power windows are hydraulically operated and I avoid such cars as they are very expensive to fix (the cylinders are now over $200 a piece) Other than that, beautiful car. Last year of the big block straight 8. The smaller block was used in the '53 Specials.

I’m at a loss to understand why this is called a Riviera. In the early 50’s almost all hardtops, that is cars without center posts had special names. Cadillacs were, DeVilles, Oldsmobiles, Holidays, Pontiacs, Catalina’s, Fords, Victorias, etc. This car is a Roadmaster, 4door Sedan. If it was a Riviera, it would have been a 2door Hardtop. Roadmaster had four portholes, while the Special and the Super had three. The Special shared its body with the Olds 88, while the Super shared its body with the Roadmaster, and the Cadillac. The Olds 98 may or may not have been on the Roadmaster/Cadillac body. I don’t remember.
