Sallie's Snack Bar Castle Market ( final week )

I hadn't visited Sallie's cafe since the early 1990s, but had to take some video/photos as it has its place in my memory from years before.
Back in the mid-1970s I can remember shopping trips to town in the summer holidays with Mum and Nan. Whilst there we'd usually call in at this little 'cafe on the corner' for a cheese sandwich ( with salad cream for me and bro ), washed down with a Pepsi.
Heavenly.
Back then Sallie was serving whilst her parents were doing stuff at the back.
Imagine my surprise whilst filming, I was just about to leave for home when guess who should turn up?
Sal very kindly allowed me the opportunity of a photograph beside her former premises.
Sallie has now become part of the new Moor Market and I wish her and the rest of the former Castle traders the very best of luck for the future.

My wife says there are more stalls in the new Moor Market closed now than when it was first open and the numbers are increasing weekly. Traders are saying it will die when free bus is axed and rents go up. The new market also stinks. The old Castle market USED to but got cleaned up. There was no odour there on my visits filming. Some 'progress', eh?

Just this last week the local news had admitted the failing of the new Moor Market. The number of customers has dropped to below what the old Castle Market last was. No doubt the corporate slags from Sheffield Shitty Council will be trying to deny any problem.

Traders have told my wife the new Moor Market just isn't paying. More stalls are empty now than when it opened - how can that be 'success'? More Sheffield Shitty Council bad decisions without a public mandate.

I remember when the council shysters promised a brand new market on the site of the Sheaf Market many years ago, then back-tracked and did the dirty on the people of Sheffield once more. We simply have a bunch of lying arseholes running our city and people keep voting for them.

yeah thats true!. It was a land grab by the council, they waited till the market charter had expired then did the dirty. They should be ashamed. As a local boy its sad to see what they are doing, or have done to OUR city!. They were told by the people they didnt want the new market down the moor, and had the cheek to moan that people werent using it!. One angry sheffielder :@ lol
