Thanks John! I also posted this recently in clawhammer style, with a linked tab. You can translate that into up-picking without too much difficulty, if you want.

Agreed, it’s a wonderful style. Frank Hamilton has some instructional videos on KZbin to help you get started: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnWxiHivrriqpKM. Also, check on Colin Bazsali on KZbin-he has a lot of up-picking videos. kzbin.info/aero/PLNeJwXafyiESVYN8qSxJtYCOGmgTBwws5&si=6gqblCyaZCNrQ3mb

I have no standard style of picking, but this is the closest to what I developed coming from finger picking guitar. I use fingers and thumb to hit various melody notes. I’ll watch this video a bunch more times to see if I can hone the technique.

Stephen, check of Colin Bazsali on KZbin, as he has lessons/demos for this style, which is also called " Seeger style. Peter Seeger popularized this traditional picking style, and used it as his go-to style of playing the banjo. It is amendable to being hybridized with other styles such as clawhammer, index-lead 2F, and even 3F picking. There are plenty of other KZbin videos that showcase this style, but Colin's channel is rich with Seeger picking.

@@banjojack Thanks for the recommendation. I have enjoyed Pete Seeger’s music since the early 70s. I didn’t really know anything about his picking style. I know he covered many genres in his style - folk, blues, calypso for example.

Hell of a sound off that banjo. Sounds like an old Vega?

Close! I do have a 1920 Vega Tubaphone, but that one is a 1903 Fairbanks Whyte Laydie #2. From my cold dead hands...
