I'm old enough to remember Sally in Gidget , The Flying Nun, and on. I was in grade school when I'd see Gidget reruns, and, The Flying Nun was on TV, and I went to a Catholic grade school. This is funny, but she seemed like my sister. Not a Hollywood actress. Just like my own sister. Then as I grew up, into my teens, late teens, and twenties, Sally was "the girl next door". Not a Hollywood actress. That's how it felt and seemed. I don't remember ever missing anything she was in. I don't know any actress, other than Sally, that seems like she could be either family or the girl next door. She's always been co cute and so real in a nice way, that I just have really felt a warmth about her. Not something I'd ever feel or say about any other Hollywood figure. This next thing I feel compelled to say is this; As an American, who has sometimes criticized Hollywood elites for their personal lives, I'm also so grateful for ALL the super super entertainment that we've had over the years. Gratitude doesn't really describe it. I think for many people your teen years, when you're spreading your wings, and having fun with friends and girl friends, away from the home environment where you're still a sibling, and child, and student, so on, is THE most memorable time in a person's life. My best friend and I double dated and took our girlfriends to see Grease. I was eighteen years old. I'm going to be 62 in August. That was the only time I've seen that film, and it still stands out in my memory. I still remember my buddy and I being cool about it with the girls. Acting like we didn't enjoy it, because the girls talked us into it. In truth, I think they were going for John Travolta, and my pal and I were going for Olivia Newton-John. None the less, years later I feel gratitude for Hollywood giving us that. Particularly today, with what seems like so little extraordinary entertainment coming out of Hollywood. What young man couldn't LOVE Sally Field for Smoky and The Bandit. Such a cutie, ya just wanted to kiss her. So THANK YOU SO MUCH.... Sally Field. If ever I should run into you, my high-lite reel would be both started and completed. Love. from a complete stranger, brother, and boy next door.
