Superb athlete was Sally! No hint of drug taking, just sheer hard work and dedication. It was great to see her embrace her parents in Barcelona when she won the Olympic Gold as I remember her saying her dad was a farmer so was very busy in the Summer months and rarely got to see her compete.

Why is she not a Dame? Her career was utterly stellar (better than Dame Kelly for example). She is one of I think 3 athletes to be Olympic Champion, World Champion, European Champion, Commonwealth Champion and World Record holder - all at the same time! The others are Daley Thompson and Jonathan Edwards.

Beaten by a Russian drug taker into second at the world champs in 91. Gunnell was a class act.

My God. How much has Team GB improved from winning 3 to 4 golds in the 90s and now winning more than 20 golds. If they were the size of the US, they can easily win 35 to 40 golds.

I like Sally very much. Great winning heart ...... but rash to say she's definitely the greatest. There have been many excellent British athletes. NO scientific way to rate athletes - best to say "I like her best" perhaps.
