It’s like when Disney shortened the final season of Owl House from around 20 episodes that are 20 minutes long each to only 3 episodes that are 40 minutes long each because it “didn’t fit the brand” even though it had high ratings (especially a 100% on rotten tomatoes) and was making a lot of money.
@mickeymalone75772 жыл бұрын

Sally didn't get the idea that her competitor, a sitcom, tends to have really bad critic scores in it's first season only to improve gradually since (see The Office, Parks and Recreation, Seinfeld, and It's Always Sunny). Sitcoms were always meant to be successful in each way regardless.

This from a "top agent" in Hollywood, regarding his stable of writers only wanting to work on prestige projects: “I mean, I’m sorry, but people seem to really like Two and a Half Men, and none of my writers want to write that. They all want to write Barry. And you know who watches Barry? Nobody.” Ooof. The Suits are going to use The Algo to drag us back to the era of laughtracked dreck. (From a recent piece in Vulture "The Binge Purge: TV’s streaming model is broken. It’s also not going away. For Hollywood, figuring that out will be a horror show.")

I’ve rewatched the show and it really dawned on me how doomed Joplin was as a tv show. Not only is it a self indulgent boring drama, but everyone associated with the project is completely self absorbed and doesn’t care at all about the message they want to bring. Just like how a lot of shows are (Velma especially) they pretend to care about their message but completely fail to honor it, and it comes across as a complete failure. Barry is absolutely fantastic at being Satire.
@thesegastarshow42105 ай бұрын
This scene is so real that it's not even funny, because that is just the reality of the TV industry. They do not care if a show is the greatest or the most offensive piece of fiction ever created. As long as people are watching, thats all that matters. Why do you think Velma of all shows got a season 2?
@montecristo18453 ай бұрын
Exactly! All of those hate-watching pairs of eyes 👀 were counted regardless of reviews. Meanwhile the graveyard of cancelled shows that didn’t deserve to die grows ever wider and deeper. I can’t remember if it was Oscar Wilde or someone else who said: “There’s no such thing as bad publicity.”

I make algorithms similar to this. I'd like to politely point out, there is no point in having an algorithm that can select for "taste cluster" (very realistic sounding, thank you) that isn't used in the script. That is, the characteristics of a successful script would be dictated and then traditional metrics would be applied to see if it works. This is the opposite of what's happening here. Traditional metrics are used to determine which show to select and taste cluster classification is used to determine if the show is worthy to air. This really makes no sense. But it is good comedy.
