Omg I can honestly say this is the video the internet needed. It’s so good to see some realism. I know camping isn’t for everyone, personally I love it. We got a huge tent in September 2019. We haven’t been able to properly go away in it yet obviously. I can honestly say I’ve actually got so many tips from you with regards to set up and what to take so thank you so much. Oh, the joys of camping !! We started off in a tent in '84. South Wales ( Newgale) great weather, we loved it. And we were hooked ! Then got a Trailer tent for a couple of years. After that it was a caravan ! Don't be put off with some bad weather, happens to us all. Once in the Peak District, is rained so bad , we had a small stream running through the middle of our tent ! Us, both our kids and the dog love going away in our van. Daughter has a tent, son has a Transit van , that he's converted to a mobile home. So it can't have been that bad !! Maybe invest in a cheap , 2nd hand caravan ?

Just watched this vid again, very entertaining!! Funnily enough, I went camping on the Lynn Peninsula last year and the wind knocked over our cooker and kitchen area making a loud crash that probably woke up the whole campsite, the tent leaked too, and we ended up booking into a hotel the following morning!! Not quite as mad as your experience, at least we had a toilet block to go to! But it was the worst camping disaster I've ever experienced. I think good advice for camping, is avoid the coast where there's more wind! Even better, go in July, probably the safest month.

Well we went on our first camping trip. Weather so hot you almost fainted, in the sun sitting in a chair with a wet tshirt on and a fan plugged in on full force. First night went well next day just as hot and in the afternoon a group of young campers in a beat up pop up set up next to us. It was fine until 18 young people started their Air conditioner up (in a popup!!) go figure. It sounded like a cement truck that was full of gravel going, round, an round and round. Finally after 3 hours of the noise we packed up and came home. Now understand we bring a 39 kg tent and everything else we need. We are old and it takes us lots of comforts to keep our bones from hurting…so we had the truck packed to the breaking point and food and water and finally the tent on the back carrier. Took us an hour to set up and about the same to take down. By the time we drove home we both went into the AC had a beer and fell asleep. Unloaded it after our nap. Will I go again heck yes, in 34 C nope, on a weekend nope. But we will do it again in mid week when its cooler or by a lake. Learned a valuable lesson. Glad to be home.

Just came across your video today was heartbreaking to see your beautiful tent in such a state...Same thing happened us in 2019 had found a site close to the beach we headed off for the day and when we came back the winds and rain was horrendous and our tent was flattened,my partner had to craw in under the flattened tent in pitch black (same size as ur own) to grab a few things to stay in a hotel for the night will never forget it....When we went back next morning it was soul destroying still wind and rain and it was shocking to see the aftermath and gather everything up in those conditions to go back home...You had a beautiful set up there it was like home from home I love my tent looking nice to so it was great to see yours .....Don’t give up the camping it’s the best holiday ever been camping over 40years and can’t wait to get away this year as with COVID we didn’t get anywhere last year...Great video and at least you can look back at it and laugh...Happy camping!

@@SallyJacksTVMum Im in N.I so unfortunately we can’t go across the water just yet with COVID so will b staying around the coast over here,believe this or not I have been dying to go to Wales thought we could have got last year but it just couldn’t happen but when if ever we do go I hope we get better weather than you did lol....I phoned my partner to tell him about your video as it was just so like our tent in size and colour and the heap the next morning...I’d love a caravan some day but truthfully I don’t think we would get enough use out of it enough....As a matter of interest did you ever go out in the tent after that? Hello there sally. I first saw you on come dine with me lol. I'm a Burnley guy myself lol. That was a brilliant upload thank you very much. I love camping holidays. Me my ex wife and our three children used to go to flamingo land camping every year then do a autumn camp and Halloween camp. It was brilliant. PLEASE don't give up. It gets better and easier. I now own about 8 different tents. Two of them are air tents lol. My ex spent £1200 on a air tent. It was good for two years. Then the footprint groundsheet was wet threw one of the beams let water in the tent. How we don't know. But Outwell were checking this out for us at the time. Thank you again for a brilliant upload.

I waa a Scout I’m disabled, so it was a group for the disabled, in 2000 we went on a Millenium Camp on the first weekend of May, it had rained for about a week, the field resembled Glastonbury and our wheelchairs had to be moved around the campsite via tractor with us sat in them, the camp was until the Monday, but due to s harsh frost on the Saturday Night, it meant we had to abandon the camp site, as we could cope, Love the way you just laughed through it

Oh dear! Lesson #1, when camping, frequently and often check the weather and be ready to bail out quickly when it turns sour. Camping gear can only handle maybe 20-30 mph winds at the most if it’s designed for it. Speaking as a Texan living through numerous sever thunderstorms, tropical storms, and hurricanes. I was camping this last weekend and had a pretty severe thunderstorm that was coming in, so I hurriedly put as much as I could In the car or may smaller tent. If it got bad, my plan was to take shelter in the bath house. All Texas campsites have these that also dub as emergency shelters. Luckily, we just had heavy rain.

First time I went camping about 7 months ago with my special needs daughter, got a four man air tent and thank god I did! Was a workout but so proud to have done it! Only stayed for two nights but the first night my daughter got dioreah n sickness from a sausage sarnie at a well known place! Grrr! Was a distance from toilets so had to improvise for her, I said never again but booked five days in Devon for may with both my daughters and her partner, think il get a bigger tent, I took double beds and glammed it up as much as possible😂 this time will be even more so, 😂 my kids take the mickey! Great video x

Oh my Goodness Sally, I almost peed in pants listening to your story. What a shame that you had to go through such an ordeal but it sure makes for good conversation. You and Gary did such a lovely job decorating that tent as well as thinking of all the necessities you would need including making private things so private or was it?? haha. This brought back so many memories of our family camping trips. My parents bought this huge canvas tent (that'scwhatvtgeyvwete back in the day) that slept 8 complete with zippered big windows, an awning and brand new air mattresses and comfy plush subzero sleeping bags. We always managed to camp at places that at least had a toilet and shower facility and one place on the hills of North Carolina even had a pool and washer and dryers. We thought we hit a gold mine with that place. But one night, while camping near Canada we had a torrential rain storm. We didn't have gale force winds but we sure did have lots of rain. Every air mattress leaked until they were pancakes and the tent had a leak too.. All the sleeping bags got wet and you could feel every lump and rock of that dirt ground. My Mom was running around in a fury while wearing a plastic shower cap on her head so as not to get her hair all wet. What an fiasco. We ended up packing all of this wet stuff and stayed in a hotel until we set off for home. My dad loved camping and the outdoors. He bought the best of everythjng you could possibly need for camping....Big Coleman lanterns that I think could illuminate half the forest and a two+ burner stove, etc. I saw it as a ton of work to set up and take down, cook and wash pots, etc. There was one summer that we went camping every weekend. I did enough of it as5 a kid and now would rather stay in a hotel and have the luxury of some one making my bed, cleaning my room and cooking for me when dining out. I love being in the outdoors and traveling about but camping is definitely on "the back burner". Now a cabin may not be a bad idea. Thanks so much for sharing your story and the lovely tour of Wales. I would love to visit there one day. 💕🏕

I went camping in Cornwall during storm Ellen and we was then hit by Francis ! We were there for 16 nights and refused for it to ruin our holiday lol we bought a berghaus air 8 and it withstood the 80mph winds !! Ours is an air tent so it just bends in and pops out in wind , we did do it again in May and went to Newgale in Wales and it was the best time ever ! Ot rained on pack up day though which was not the best but sped us up lol

OMG I love you, thank you so much for sharing, I have camped since I was 21 and been a proper festival goer, but I still love the fact that you dont mess around and you needed to go you needed to go! And you shared it for all the people out there who wouldn't talk about it!! you rock girl !! xx oh and well done for surviving the storm! I would have been drinking the prosecco though after that!! However if you get money from camping people to show you vlog then go for an air tent berghaus in particular and you will be fine xx

We had a similar experience in Scotland several years ago. Our tent poles snapped, tent collapsed during a windy day in Durness (very top of Scotland!) Only thing we could do was bundle kids and stuff in our car and drive home - a 10hr drive back to Leeds! People are right... was horrific but we have successfully camped since!

Sally Jacks TV Mum wasn’t too bad... Was about 7pm ish when we had to set off. Allowed us to have an insight into Scottish wildlife, deer coming down from the mountains, owls flying etc. We kept taking turns sleeping and driving. Arrived back home at 5 ish, rather tired but safely home. If it’s put you off tents, try camping pods/wigwams. Some called running water wigwams have en suite!

LOL, so funny hearing about you pooing in a field. I have had many a hilarious night camping. We were camping the same time as you but were in Abergele. Our gazebo broke and the cooker blew over. My sister was with us and it was her first time camping with her little boy - she actually went home for the last night. Luckily we have an Oz tent and they are very strong but we had boxes piled up on one side ready for home and they all blew over in the middle of the night!! We have been on some windy camps in the past, our friend's teepee actually fell on him one night in Barmouth - that was the night the whole campsite virtually had to spend the night in the cars (years ago). We have experienced all sorts from snow to thunder and still love it so I guess you could say we like roughing it LOL. It is actually one of the best things you can do if you have the weather sitting out with a campfire and homemade kebabs on the go, so I hope it doesn't put you off for good :)

Oh my word you've been through it many times!!!! I couldn't do it again, I didnt enjoy it at all, but we laughed. Repaired my tent and now we are selling it. My husband refuses to go through it again. But I bought a caravan because of covid to live in for work, so we are going ro have a few nights away in that this year. A couple of years ago we was camping in Cornwall,we got hit by a bad storm,I ended up playing kite with the awning lol,the tent was destroyed,but following year we went off camping up Scotland in the emergency tent,when weather nice camping is awesome

I know this is a old video, but I have to give a comment. I live in South Africa and a similar event hapend to us in our 1 week camping in which duck type and rope kept it up for the rest of the trip. However i did find that a good new tent that can stand the weather makes a big difference in regards to camping and thats why i chose a wall type tent exept that its in a form of a tent here in South Africa so it uses steel poles for structure. I WORKS! And now I am a happy camper so I really felt your pain. P.s. Never buy a second hand tent. To be onest try it 1 more time but buy a tent that can stand the elements in your camping area. Also if your tent can buy a storm net that covers your tent. Research helps a lot. God bless you but please dont give up.
