Before christianity has been the dominate religion in Europe, most people believed in more than just one good. For example the Greeks, or the Germanic and Nordic peoples. They all had goodes for fertility and eggs had a place in celebration for them. Therefore it is assumed the the catholic church decided to tie up to those tradition with the aim not to offend people they wanted to missionize.

Christy Krohne I've noticed this with my parents. it's much easier to soften your accent when you're reciting memorized lines or reading but when you're on the spot trying to formulate sentences the accent is more evident

Yes it is a german tradition from germanic times, Christians often took over Rituals, Holidays, traditions so it would be easier for the people to adopt and so they dont rebel against the new faith of the leader (since the people wanted to keep their traditions). Same with the Christmas tree, also german tradition taken by christians for the same reason.
