I was lucky enough to have gone to Leland High School with Salman. Not only a legend obviously, but one hell of a nice guy as well. His whole family, brother and parents are great people. It was so awesome to have skated with him so many times - you always learned something or were totally blown away by his power. Sal has power, like Wade Speyer or Ben Shroeder power but with much more style. If you skated in SJ, especially in Almaden, Salman was our god, every skater wanted to skate like Sal.

Beta Ruled! Did you know there was a Vans store next to the 76’ station when the Beta strip mall was brand spanking new? Vans didn’t have much stuff yet but I remember buying some Van’s skate wheels there. Two red & two blue. I had a Pegasus rocker from Gremic’s in LG, Bennet Hi Jackers & Powerflex 3’s or 4’s, if I remember correctly. Gremic’s was named after owners kids Greg & Mike. Greg used to be able to spin like 20 360’s. I still think I have my Winchester Skate Park membership card somewhere??? Oakridge Mall dug out a Skate park but never laid concrete. And Campbell had a skate park back in the day!

rad. ha! leland high. i grew up in south san jose during early 70s thru early 90s. definitely saw sal skate at least once at a go skate parking lot. i don't know if he was testing a new board or what, but it was cool to see him pop a few tricks there. that was probably '93. i always liked his style. aggressive yet fluid and smooth. extremely creative. and the whole switch stance thing back then was so new. i don't know if young people truly realize how guys like sal revolutionized modern skating. i have one of his real decks. in fact i recently pulled it out to skate again after a long hiatus. it's a little worn, but not too bad. i slapped new wheels and bearings on it.

loved Salman Agah. in the 90s i had cut outs of TWS and Thrasher of this dude on my bedroom walls. 36 now. still gives me chills

Years ago in an interview Salman said that he kept hurting his pushing ankle(right ankle) so in order to lessen the pain and keep skating he just learned to skate/push switch with his healthy ankle. I think the interview is in the Thrasher skater of the year issue from 93 or whichever year he won.

So many memories as soon as I heard that soundtrack. Rainy weekends in Brizol watching skate vids (the only time you did back then).

His style was so solid too, pretty much no one had the kind of power that he did at that time. The song is sick as fuck too.

The Charles Barkley of Skateboarding!!! I somehow never got to see this ! This part was really thorough. Straight-up leading the pack for back then! Salman was the first pro with a massive switch ollie, and did sw. flips even before Rodney Mullen. He is also widely accepted as the first skater to ever grind switch. So now you know kids!!!!

Me and my friends would watch this video part daily. Nobody skated switch better and he also skated fast. We all adjusted out speed to skate as fast as Salman. All of his tricks popped. Such an underrated skater.

I miss the Safeway block. They ruined it with a badly placed speed bump. I saw Jason Adams make a long super bright spark on a 50 50 there. I also remember Salman and Shawn playing skate for Sodas, or was it Snapple? Great fun days.
