In 1989 Salman Rushdie's novel The Satanic Verses caused demonstrations across the Muslim world and led the leader of Iran, Ayatollah Khomeini, to issue a fatwa condemning the literary giant to death for blasphemy. Fast forward more than 30 years and the threat appeared to have all but passed. Then came the shocking news from a writers’ event in New York - Rushdie had been attacked on stage by a young man wielding a knife. Rushdie survived and has produced a candid, fearless and witty book called Knife about the events. 7.30's Sarah Ferguson interviews Rushdie. And a warning that he describes the attack on him with an author's vivid recollection.
