As someone who greatly enjoys Picross AND Minesweeper, Voltorb Flip is actually the worst thing to happen to my sanity. They've taken two great puzzle games and turned them into something I can't guarantee a solution to.

I hate it, at least with minesweeper, you can usually win guaranteed most of the time. This damn game is like okay this block has a 50% chance of not being a voltorb. But so do these other 6 blocks. But also you have to factor in that this also has a chance of being a 2 or 3. So, you do a little math, and you pick what makes sense or you just guess and you go back to lvl1. And then you get 7/1 and 7/1 where everything else doesn't make sense to pick. So,you make the safe 7/1 pick and it's a voltorb, like why?

To be fair, a lot of it is just simple math. If 5 slots have 1 or and 4 points, 4 slots must have 1 each. There's some pretty simple concepts here that people get distracted by exploding voltorbs and not trying to reason out

Also worth considering is if you are at a 50/50 and you don't want to risk losing all the coins you've gathered, you can press b to quit the game and collect the coins you've earned all while staying on the same level

Thank you for this guide! It was very descriptive. They concocted an interesting game here for sure, but the fact chance plays a large role in the game while the prizes are extremely pricey makes it just plain not fun for me. I wish they'd just made a Minesweeper clone or a mini-game that eliminated chance all together. This is basically gambling with extra steps and also with the chance of dooming yourself to failure if you make any logical errors. But maybe that's just a pessimistic outlook. Once again, a very nice, high quality guide for Voltorb Flip!

Thank you so so much for the recommendation of the website, I have been attempting voltorb flip for 12 years and it's the most frustrating mini game within a Pokémon game I've ever played, I hate it!! I've never passed level 4 myself. The website doesn't actually show you how to win, since it chooses which ones you have to flip and a lot of the times so far it's given me voltorb and I've lost, but it's given me more wins easily than I've ever been able to achieve. I can FINALLY use the game corner 🙏

Another tip if the total number of remaining points plus voltorbs=the number of remaining squares then that row is all 1 or voltorb. It's the same as rule 3 but for less obvious occurrence. 5/1, if you flip a 2 first. Then that leaves you with 3/1 with 4 squares. 4=4. So they are 3 1's and a voltorb. It's the same as the rule of 5 with no squares.

for those of you who are like me and need/want the rules listed out so you can refer to them as you play. * = voltorb mark. Rule #1: Flip over all rows with 0 voltorbs. Rule #2: Mark all rows with 5 voltorbs with *. Rule #3: Mark rows were the point value and voltorb add up to 5 with * and 1. (2 and 3 are not possible here Rule #4: If a row has 4 voltorb mark them with * and point score. Rule #5: if point value and voltorb add up to 6 then mark with *, 1, and 2. (3 is not possible here) Rule #6: eliminate 1 if you can if points and voltorb are 3V & 5 points, 2V & 8 points, or 1 voltorb and 11 points. mark as *, 2, and 3 Rule #7: eliminate if possible Ex: if a row with only 1s or 1 voltorb crosses with a column that has no 1s then the cross section is a voltorb. Rule #8: take everything into consideration when you eliminate a known voltorb for the row and the column.

Having 2 DS's and a copy of Platinum is a godsend. I can just buy the TMs for Ice Beam and Thunderbolt then trade them into my Heart Gold. This minigame can go fuck itself, and the fact that you can't even buy coins is just pure evil.

That’s a great guide, although I definitely don’t think the voltorb calculator is a morally wrong. I played with my own brain for about three hours and I cannot get over how much chance overrides skill and thought. The prizes being as expensive as they are I think after playing the game yourself for a bit it’s totally reasonable to switch over. Since I did come here for Pokémon, not money gambling sudoku. And there are some real basic tms locked behind 10,000 coins. It’s a bit ridiculous honestly

yo Pokémon games are super expensive for some reason (they always sold exceptionally well, so theoretically there should be enough supply to satisfy the high demand, dunno why the prices are so high), especially when you're trying to get HG/SS including a Pokéwalker. I'm glad I got the game around 2010 when it was released. I'd just download & play a rom of the game to run it from an R4 card or a Homebrew-enabled 3DS if I was you

Something you didnt mention is how to get to level 8, if you beat level 7, you generally won't progress, you'll just stay at level 7 even if you win. To get to 8, you have to win 5 boards in a row and in each of those boards you have to flip over at least 8 tiles (this means you can skip from level 5 to 8). So on early levels make sure to flip over any guaranteed 1s you see instead of just marking them.

God i remember sneaking my Nintendo ds as a kid into my room at night and playing this game under my covers for hours on end (or so it felt). Once I figured out how the game worked I would only flip on rows that had 0 volt orbs and I would occasionally gamble on the odd 1 or 2 volt orb rows. I did this until I had enough to buy an ekans😂

I’m almost convinced that if there are two blocks to pick between and one has like 25% of being a voltorb and 75% a number the game will almost always put the voltorb in the lower chance spot thus punishing you if your math is good and taking the more statistically correct path

Nice guide that helped me grind a bit, until I realized I'm on an emulator and can use save states to cheat. If you also don't mind cheating do this: 1: Save the game to a slot 2: Blow youself up on purpose. The game will flip all the cards and show you what was where. 3: Memorize the position of all the numbered cards. 4: Load in the last save and press all the cards you memorized. Boom, profit

Don’t know how I feel about the voltorb flip calculator because it can give the wrong answer. In my opinion if you are playing on a legit ds-you can just create a save state, take a photo of the placement if you fail, and load the state and try again.

Another cheat. If you play on emulator you can use quicksaves to check every box. On level7 you have to win 3 times to get to level8 which is the highest level, and you win 1800-3200 points every game. I bought a dratini, evolved it and bought every 10.000tm and teached them to it.
