Salmon and Trout Plugs/An Honest and Revealing Review/Fundamental Fishing

Today we are unboxing and reviewing salmon and trout plugs from Best Lures our of British Columbia Canada. I'll put a link to their website at the bottom of this description.
These plugs have some beautiful paint jobs and carving, and come in several colors including glow in the dark. However there are few small improvements that possibly could be made that we will discuss in the video.

the difference between Canadian wood plugs with the grooved out nose and a dreamweaver plug or JPlug is the Jplug style swims...the Candian wood plugs have an Erratic action of a wounded bait fish...that why they never have a drilled hole for a beadchain and hook harness...that is the lesson I learned painting Plugs for the guys on the West Coast...even though I hate screw in hook eyes

Chuckie is my favorite 2nd biggest in the tail less and the hooks they use hold up fine for lake Ontario salmon anyways caught a 30.6 and multiple mid 20s diffenly did have to sharpen the hooks but strength wise they are more they strong enough. chuckie and misfit best plugs on the market in my mind

Thanks Patrick for sharing your experience and for watching the video. I’ve seen so many big fish straighten out cheap hooks that we try to error on the side of caution and use stronger hooks. It’s one less thing we have to worry about.

@@tangledtacklefishing i have as well silver streak spoons hooks I alway change them and the o rings that come with them as well i have not had problems with the best lure co but will pay attention to them cause it's no fun when that happens

Thank you so much for taking the time to review Best Lures! Moving forward we will be sure to add the lure size to the UPC code on the bottom of the box... Currently we are using Eagle Claw Lazer Sharp hooks, any recommendations on a better/sharper hook would be greatly appreciated... Thank you again! Cheers

Hi Jenn. I enjoyed reviewing your products. They really are beautifully painted and crafted. But the hooks didn’t impress me. I would look into VMC, Gamakatsu or Owner hooks. Definitely consider 4X strong hooks because these brutes can deal some damage on hooks. We use VMC Spark Point 4X hooks on most of our custom rigs. They are the sharpest hooks I’ve ever seen out of the package. But they are getting tricky to find. I’m glad you’re considering putting the size on the packaging. People will like that.

Hi Jenn, Owner hooks would be my choice. I replace 90% of stock hooks with Owners. Very sharp, stay sharp, and extremely strong.

The paint looks great on these lures. They remind me of something you would see in your grandpa's tackle box. That being said, I think im gonna pick a couple up. It never hurts to have more lures right???? Thanks for the video i enjoyed, hopefully more companies send you more lures to test. Do you ever use scarpace meat plugs?? Keep up the good work

Thanks for watching and the nice comment. I've seen the Scarpace rigs but have never used them. Our go to plugs are Dreamweaver, Silver Hordes and Ace Hi's, but these will find a place in the tackle box also. The paint quality on these are some of the best I've ever seen and I have a sneaking suspicion that these will put plenty of fish in the box.

Overall they look pretty good, a lot of thought went into the design. The paint looks quality and very detailed, have to wait and see how it holds up to the wear and tear of the fishing world. Most of the ones you got look like they would be great for natural feeding fish, the toxic green would be great for an aggressive bite or maybe some steelhead. Not a huge fan of the single hook set up, would rather see a single treble hook. Hook sharpness is a killer but can always be sharpened or changed out with a better hook. They have lots of sizes which is great so you can match the feed wish should help put more fish in the boat. The little one might be a great size for pink salmon or maybe even Atlantic for people that have them in there areas. Can’t wait to see how they run through the water. With the weight and design they should put off a lot of action. Once again another great video and can’t wait to see more product reviews coming in the future.

the paint looks great kind of wonder how the eyes are attached in the plug looks like they might tear out. I am used to the j plug style with the chain but they might hold having them so light should let you fish them real slow

I agree that the light weight should be outstanding at slow speeds. They really are good looking lures. But we still have to give them a run on the water to be completely convinced.

Looks like a Lyman type lure which should have good action for Kamloops and lake trout,

I agree but we play the hand we’re dealt. I’ll get them out there as soon as possible but just by looking at them my gut feeling is they will put fish in the boat. But if it’s the opposite I’ll absolutely let everyone know that also.
