Two is always better than one! Regular visiting angler Shirley, demonstrating how important it is to quickly get back casting into an area where you've just hooked [and landed] a salmon. Pinpoint fly casting accuracy across a river, especially a wide river, is a skill that can be very useful in these circumstances and as you can see for yourself, Shirley definitely has that skill. Happy days :))

I couldn’t agree more Toby, they are stunning when they arrive straight from the sea like that. There’s a massive amount of water in the system but the river is still crystal clear. Hopefully we’ll get back at it as she drops back in. 🙏❤️👍🏻

That fish was landed back in August Duggie but we had one on Thursday just past that was nearly as fresh. September was a very difficult period for sure, high water temperatures in the Loch lead to high temperatures in the river and as you know, that’s not ideal for salmon. It was very quiet with us so no surprises that it was very quiet on Ness Castle and the club water. They’ll definitely be there, they just lie inactive on the bottom, waiting for the temperature to drop. Looks like SSE were emptying Garry dam for a few days before the latest rain arrived, the Loch must be fuller and cooler than it’s been all year, hopefully you’ll get a few as the river drops back in. 🎣🎣🎣

What is the best size of rod 14ft or 15ft for the river

Hi Alan, my advice is that you think not so much about the length of the rod alone but that you focus more upon the capabilities of the angler and the conditions on the river at the time you are fishing. For the majority of this season, most anglers have used rods shorter than 15ft. However, since the river has dramatically increased in volume, most anglers have used rods of 15ft and above. I hope that answers your question.
