There had been fish caught on the beat recently but as the river dropped it became bore difficult . A beautiful beat to fish and I will look forward to having another day there

Wonderful video Iain. You had me to the end! Nice touches of humility too! Who hasn’t rushed off to fish, driven for hours then discovered no boots, flies, rod or some other essential! Things remain dismal here in Newfoundland.! Even the lower mighty Humber, a classic late season river, seems devoid of fish and even anglers. Normally get 30+ pounders here most years. Something major has happened 🥲. Please keep up the videos. Cheers, Steve.

Fish were late on the Avalon.We had some rain last week tho and I had the best week of fishing all summer to end it off.Strange year though for sure.June was pitiful and July water was terribly low.Sea run browns though have all but disappeared in certain areas.Spring was bad and not much fall run sign yet

I hope the run comes Chris we need some fish in the rivers to keep the stocks up and like us we always count on the autumn runs Cheers Iain. 🥃

By the Cringe-that is one large river ! I was up at Meikleour a few weeks ago in December (just visiting) and that seemed huge but this seems different again. Having caught most of my salmon on little North Wales rivers I love to see this footage but it does intimidate a little ! Thanks anyway- Blwyddyn Newydd Dda (Happy New Year !) Tom- Tight Lines and here's to a better season

Fishing on the Tay is a challenge Tom Its like most rivers the salmon tend to travel through the same areas to head upstream . The only trouble is they can be 50 yards away fro the angler . It's good fun trying to cover the water and I always go home tired and sore . It's a beautiful part of the country and I hope that you make it back for a cast or two . Tight lines for 2024 All the best Cheers Iain 🥃

The weather for this evening was thundery showers but a couple of wee showers Moe and we need a lot more than that . It's been a tough year . There have been a few that have been in the right place at the right time but its not the norm I hope that your rivers fill with fish soon Cheers Iain 🥃

Thanks for another excellent video Iain. The beat you were fishing looked really nice water and looked very fishy. Pity the fish didn’t want to play again. Hopefully next time, tight lines

Hi Iain , Great video shame the bright conditions let you down there I think a bit more cloud cover and you would of been in , But still lovely scenery as always and the whiskey is going down a treat. Cheers. Steve. 🥃

Thanks Steve. I haven't fished on that beat for a long time and it has pools that hold fish but it wasn't to be silver fish splashed when I had the camera on but I think the bright day put them off . the scenery in Highland Perthshire is second to none . the next trip I manage to find some shade 😉. Cheers Iain 🥃

Lovely water Iain, with a great pace... You gave it every chance to produce a salmon.... at least you got a seatrout... and don't mention the wet foot! 🎣😉👍 Cheers James 🥃

The seatrout put up quite a good run James and had my reel screaming it was a shame that I never had the camera switched on because it was quite a nice fish . the Tay hasn't produced a lot of seatrout over the last few years and it was good to get a hold of one . My foot was sore fishing all day in boot foots . I think the water pressure was compressing my foot and had the wellie squeezing hard Cheers Iain 🥃

You gotta love Seatrout Iain... the never fail to make me smile... they give a great account of themselves... I don't eat them now, but when I did, I much preferred them to Salmon. I have found the same thing with bootfoots... they cave in under the pressure. I hope you get out again soon and tight lines. Cheers James 🥃

sorry about the delay my feet were so sore it took a few days before they felt semi normal , my toes seemed to be bending in the wrong direction the seatrout put up that great a fight I thought it was a 5lb salmon 🥃

Hi Iain, I enjoyed yor comment about a wet foot. I trout fish and have got through 4 pa irs of chest waders and am on my 5th, they now leak prodigiously too. Fished at Leighton Reasevoir on Wednesday, soaked right leg. At nearly 69 I can cope. Nick from York

Hi Nick I felt your pain that day. I have had a pair of waders that I have worn on nearly every trip over the past six or seven years and they haven't let in a drop (long may it continue🤞) its just our luck when we buy waders if we end up with good ones, the pair I had before cost me a fortune and were supposed to be the best and never lasted a season . Ps. I have got a couple of years on you so keep going have fun and tight lines. Cheers Iain 🥃

Hi Iain, thank you for your message. Do you live in Perth and did I stay at yours on a work trip a few years ago. If I did, I showed you a pic of a 9lb 7oz salmon I had taken from the River Ure when trout fishing. If it was you, you rightly told me off! Nick from York

you obviously have a lot of fun and enjoy conversations while away from home Nick ....... I am afraid it wasn't me but glad that you found someone interested in fishing while on your travels. I live in Edinburgh but love to travel to Perthshire and have had some great conversations in-between fishing 🥃

Another great video Iain. I was recently treated to a Hardy Ultralite, not the latest model but made in Alnwick not long before production in England finished. I love it. I notice you're fishing a Hardy rod. What model is it please and the reel also. Thanks
@IainSB
@IainSB 10 ай бұрын
The rod I am using is a Hardy Demon. it's the first in the demon series 12ft for a 7wt. I always use a heavier line to load the rod . The reels I use are old J W Young 1540 they are virtually indestructible and if parts wear they are still available. Cheers Iain. 🥃

I don't think that the head I am fishing with is long enough to create the cast Fred . I was using my 12 ft rod and I can cover a bit of water but think it's a bit short for any spiral casts. Cheers Iain 🥃

Nothing worse than wet feet (foot).....except maybe fish that refuse to play. The cloud should have helped but not this time!

the waders were boot foot and the water pressure made them dig in Mr Mazo. By the end of fishing I could hardly walk and was glad to have a seat in the car . The last time my freainds were fishing there they had 8 fish in the last hour That's fishing one fish is great these days Cheers Iain. 🥃

I really enjoy your videos and I caught a Salmon on your fly pattern. Just a suggestion - perhaps you could occasionally put your camera on a tripod on the bank so that we get another view

I am quite ugly and there aren't that many that would want to see me from any angle..... Joking apart you are only the Second person Ian that has asked me to do this . On one of my visits to Cardrona I will try and set a camera on a tripod and get some video with a different perspective. Cheers Iain. 🥃
