WOW!!! What an amazing selection of Salmon dialed watches you have shown us here. It is such a beautiful colour with so many differences in tone available. I feel that it is a colour that matches all skin colours equally well and as you mentioned although the watch may be modern, the dial colour harks back to a vintage era adding a real touch of class. Another brilliant thing about this dial colour is that it is greatly appealing to both sexes. A truly universal colour option that is in vogue once again. I don’t like the taste of Salmon but, Salmon dials are most definitely my taste. I don’t have one but, I definitely want one! A captivating video here my friend. A true joy to the eyes. Well done as always! ✊

IDGUY - Love this video. Great perspectives. Glad to see you covered some more affordable examples. At the high end, the A. Lange & Sohne Datograph is a work of art both visually and technically. However, my favorite high end salmon dial is the Patek Philippe 5001P. It is a rectangular watch in platinum with a Reverso like art deco case. The numerals are pure 20's. The power reserve under the 12 and the seconds above the 6 balance the look of the rectangular shape.

Thank you Blueshirt! I should have addressed the colours in a bit more detail as well (but maybe leaving the images on the screen lets the viewer think more about them) - but that Mont Blanc in particular! Great video. One little quibble. In the Great Gatsby, Tom Buchanan made fun of Gatsby's suit precisely because it wasn't what someone with class or "Old Money" would wear. Gatsby didn't care. He wore pink because it was Daisy's favorite color. Regardless...I love salmon dial watches.

A question, if you would not mind: What precisely is the difference between a "stylistic choice that has been hyped up over time" and one with intrinsic legitimacy and merit, one not hyped up? I ask with all respect and curiosity - this is something that has been of interest to me for some time.
@ID-Guy4 жыл бұрын
Phew, great question. It's actually very video worthy too. There's two sides to the coin, but also a grey area where they meet as well. What is unanimously known as "good design" could also be seen as a "direction that has been hyped" - but then it deserves merit by how brilliantly executed it was. Very thought provoking. I'd actually love to sit down and put some thoughts together at the end of the week! Thanks for this MDC!

Some fascinating history and perspective. I hope this colour doesn't become the next blue - devalued by ubiquity. Pink dials can look great and are less match match with most clothes. I'm a big fan of pink, and certainly my dress shirts that aren't white will only be blue or pink and I wear it casually too. But I'm not that attracted to it as a dial variation, I think because of its association with higher end and exclusivity, which is just marketing as to make a pink/salmon dial is no harder than any other colour and its not like a precious metal or gemstone, valuable in its own right. I'll always consider it a 'look at me!" status flag, which I find a bit vulgar.
@ID-Guy4 жыл бұрын
And I guarantee that's why these watches aren't spoken about more often. There's a stigma surrounding them of being "Status" - but think about classic Longines and Omega's (you can still find them today) - Somehow it migrated from being a stylistic choice of its time into an exclusive colour. Kinda weird. Great points, Stu! This should have been expanded upon in the video
