HI Paul, really enjoy the videos.I am just getting into salmon fishing, spinning at the moment but hope to progress to the fly as well by next season. Hooked and lost a big fish on the laune last week so totally hooked myself now. I do a lot of fly fishing for trout in the Cork and Kerry area. Hi Damien, I agree with you and I wonder if anyone has ever done a survey or costing on a fish ladder because I reckon there must be grant aid to help migratory species like salmon.

The problem is that there is no will present on the side of the authorities to make the necessary changes needed to allow for the free passage of the salmon. There are plenty of good examples of effective fish ladders in various countries but unfortunately we are well behind when it comes to safe guarding our wild stocks. I am not sure if anyone has looked into taking a case to the EU by way of petition but the habitats directive is definitely not being adhered to on the Lee.

Great video. A webcam would be a good addition to the river so people could see the water level before heading out. I made the trip out with my spinning gear twice over the weekend only to find the water at the level it's at in this video.

That would be too much to expect, all we want it that they give the water release times on the phone but most of the time that you ring it's out of date. They have no consideration for the anglers, I hate having to bring all my gear just in case of every eventuality.

Thanks Steve, I had some big trout from last year but best fish was only 5lbs, compared to the previous year when the best was over 7lbs so I didn't put up a video, hopefully this year I can get something bigger on video.

Hi Steve I will look over last years footage and see if there's enough for a video, this year looks good as the low water will hold fish back and we will get a build up of fish in the tidal waiting for some rain and when that comes we can expect a good run.

how do you attach running line till shooting head

Hi Oisin, if you follow my video on loop to loop connections its really easy, the main thing is to make sure that you have the right loop end so that the thick end of the shooting head is connected to the running line and the tapered end is where you connect the sink tip or tapered leader, kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2qbe6qIZquen7s ..the system works for all loop to loop connections from running line to shooting head to sink tip to tapered leader. I have seen many anglers with their shooting head line connected the wrong way round and they had almost given up fly fishing over a simple mistake because they found it difficult to cast. More line manufacturers should print or tag the reel end fly line section permanently to stop this issue from happening.
