Hi Keith,I have been very busy and with the lack of water I left the salmon alone for awhile, I have a few trout videos coming soon, over all a quiet salmon season only dark coloured fish lately trying to find a fresh fish before the season closes might try Kerry this weekend.

Hi mrkingfisher love your videos i fish salmon may till september fish the worm i want to change all that im after buying a double hand fly rod i was wondering about the all these lines my rod is 9/10 line what line wouls you recomend thanks
@MrKingfisher34 жыл бұрын
Hi Wayne, nice to see that you're moving over to the fly. The line really depends on the rod you bought, these days the Scandi style rods are probably the best all round rod for salmon fishing as they can cast the multi tip , scandi and skagit fly lines with ease. Let me know the make and model of your rod so that I can match a line to it for you. Regards Paul.

Glad I found your website. Very nice stuff. I fish river Moy around Ballina late August - early Sept with spinner baits. I don't think the ridgepool is worth 80 euros on top of the permit. Plus, I can't fly fish. The salmon I'm catching are around 7 lbs. It's definitely expensive for a visitor. 40 euros for a 3 week fishing license and 20 euros/day for salmon. Do you have any recommendations spots around Mayo late Aug- early Sept for salmon or trout? Preferably free cause I can't afford buy 2 club permits. Only in Ireland for 2 weeks and it's hard to get a day and explore areas I'm not familiar with and not knowing if I need a permit. One of these days I would love to learn to fly fish.

Hi Will, sadly I don't have any information on the free salmon fishing up in Galway / Mayo as most of my fishing is in Cork and Kerry covering the Lee, Laune, Currane and the Blackwater river. I know that it can be expensive especially in August / September as these are the peak months and also the highest permit prices of the season on all salmon fisheries. The only advice I can give you is to take up the fly and any information that you will need on that I will gladly help you get started. Regards Paul.

One of these days I will learn to fly fish. There's no fly fishing areas where I live in California. If I'm definitely in your area I'll give you a shout. Look forwards seeing more of your videos!

Most of the Lee river is private club waters but there are a few spots like the Grotto, the Bride river and the Shournagh river which are tributaries of the Lee. The Bandon river from Innishannon bridge down is free fishing but you will need a salmon and seatrout licence. Unfortunately most of the good places will cost money but if you don't mind paying for a day permit The Blackwater has some cracking trout fishing.
