Making a trip out middle of august. Think some spinners will do well for pinks on bird creek?
@chasehaydenphoto2 жыл бұрын
That is what we used. In fact, we didnt even bring our own fishing equipment when we went. I purchased a spinning rod combo at walmart (about $30). I also switched to braided line (my friends did not) since thats what I use the most at home, and we bought #4 and #5 sized spinners. Each day was different, but generally speaking the pink and orange colors seemed to work the best. Play with the retrieve, and have a fun. It was a great experience. We did not know it at the time, but most of the locals do not keep pinks since they do not store as well. They tasted great when we grilled them the same day we caught them though. Also, you are not supposed to touch them, so you should try and release them while still in the water if you are not keeping them. We didnt know that either but some locals helped us by kindly pointing it out. Fishing during the incoming tide also seemed to be better than any other time of the day, though we were on the water as often as we could be.

@@chasehaydenphoto Are you allowed to use treble hooks on the spinners or does it have to be single hook?
@dr.chasehayden2 жыл бұрын
@@PINEHILLOUTDOORS33 I think the safest thing to do is to call and confirm. In Texas (fresh or saltwater) we don't have rules regarding single/treble hooks so I didn't know that was something to consider. One of the friends from Montana brought it up since that is something they have to worry about on their trout rivers. (It may be a thing in some of the rivers/ponds in Texas where they stock rainbows, but I don't have water near me that is cold enough to worry about it)

@@PINEHILLOUTDOORS33 you can use a single treble hook or two single hooks

People normally don't keep pinks unless they smoke it. Silvers and kings are more favored. Reds are good for smoking too but if you catch em before they turn red. They're just as good

Our unrefined Texas taste buds thought the pinks were pretty good when we ate them fresh. After talking to the locals, we didnt freeze and bring any home. Just the Silvers and Halibut (different video).

Is it legal there to keep fish that are fowl hooked. like in the side like @.45 seconds?? i know every place has different rules?
@chasehaydenphoto3 жыл бұрын
No, we threw them back. We actually learned on the second day we were there that we were not supposed to pull any fish out of the water that we were not going to keep. Ie. We should have tried not touch them, and try to remove the hook while they were still in the water instead of landing them and rising them back in. We only learned that on our guided trip though.
