Salmon fishing on the River Blackwater - Day 1

I had an exciting day salmon fishing on the Upper Blackwater above Rogie Falls near Contin in the Scottish Highlands. The first decent rain after a dry summer caused the river to rise, and salmon started heading to their spawning grounds. Plenty of salmon passed me during the day until one fell for a 12 copper-bodied Stoats Tail fished floating line tipped with an intermediate polyleader.

It was a great day especially because most other rivers in the region were unfishable with the fly

It was a very good day. I also went back the day after and caught another salmon. Watch out for part 2🎣

It's well worth a visit especially when there is some water on. You will only need a short rod 11ft switch or 10ft single-handed..

I had a quick look at the Alness last September on the way to Brora - the Association water looks nice and the Novar fishings higher up as well but more ££'s - it's a spate river too so tricky when having to book a trip too far ahead.@@hawker-overend5404
