For those talking about the length of the rods (especially american). Its mostly the Scottish/Irish/British that use long rods (between 15-17ft) Even if they are fishing with floating lines they go long. The reason is the sizes of the rivers are usuly long, or the fish is big and they want good resistance on them, which you get from a longer rod. Also its more suited for LOOONG spey lines which is quite often used in DEE, Tweed etc. Me who lives in Sweden usuly go weight 7-8 12.6ft for My skagit rig, and weight 9-10 13-14ft for my Scandi set up, thats usuly what people here in Scandinavia use because we also use shooting heads, instead of long spey lines. In the US you guys fish mostly skagit (if im correct) these are very short shooting heads which allows to cast bigger flies with shorter rods by the help of sustain ancers. meanwhile in Scandinavia its mostly touch and go casts. I have to tell you guys from the US, i love your Skagit set-up, its perfect here for spring sea trouts.

Why fishermen's clothing is from the 18th century? And why fishing equipment is so old? Is it illegal to fish with modern equipment or what?

Romance and tradition. If you don't understand that... you'll never appreciate or understand salmon fishing in Scotland ;)

it's not 18th century, it's only around 100 year old style, it's traditional for ghillies to dress this way on the bigger scottish waters, if it's not for you then stay away! these guys know every stone in the rivers. who says you have to fish with up to date brand new gear, some guys like the older traditional tackle
