Hi John we are on to our 8th week of isolation and I think that it may take a while before those like us that are shielding get back in the outside world.. I hope that a vaccine is found or I may run out of things to edit and may have to resort to my fathers great uncles train journey 8mm films 😉....... I love your photo of you and the wee guy and hope all is well with all your family. All the best and take care. Cheers Iain

Good morning Iain, hope yourself & Frances are well and keeping away from this nasty virus. Nice to see & hear the sights and sounds of the river and surroundings. Only gone as far as the front door in 6 weeks, luckily have a decent back garden, so have been sat out directing the wife on gardening duties. Let’s hope this virus goes soon, so we can get back to something like normality. Till that time comes Tight Lines my friend.

Yes Paul we have the same problem and think that we are going to be stuck until the vaccine comes. I have not been a gardener but now know the difference between a trowel and a rake . I have even planted seeds that have been in the green house for years and have germinated.I think I have a lot of tomatoes ,radish, lettuce and various other veg. I have raided the bird seed and now growing sunflowers . There is also a lot less plants in the garden after my attempt at weeding (there are so many plants that look like dandy lions). I hope you continue to enjoy this spell of indoors and I will try to edit something with a fish in the net. Stay safe all the best. Cheers Iain 🥃

I just wonder what we will be allowed when the government lift the restrictions .I think that we may not be allowed to travel very far . Hi M I wish that I hadn't scrubbed so many trips. I deleted so many and kept ones that I had already edited.... thats the worst of being locked away when you are old... I think I may have another old one or two .... stay safe and make sure you get back on the river.. Cheers Iain 🥃

Thanks Dave I think I maybe stuck inside for a while. Frances has a rare autoimmune disease that has affected her lungs amongst other problems and I am not allowed to go out and bring the virus home so it looks like we are some of the guys that are waiting on a vaccine ..... but we are safe and glad that there are those that are there for the others NHS, carers and neighbours ... Take care when you do get out. Cheers Iain 🥃

hi mate,after a bit of advice, when i was young i served over in ni and for 6 months i had to look at lough melvin and was never aloud to have a cast,was thinking of bringing my 3 sons over for a trip to the river drowes,for a crack at the salmon,this might sound a bit silly but would it be safe for 4 geordies ? all i want is to have a good fish and have a real guinness,in a place i fell in love with,dont care about what happens to me but i dont want to take any risks when it comes to my kids if that makes sence
@davep23224 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, I live in Dublin, I fish the west of Ireland Loughs, the Moy, And the Galway weir fishery every year, I would always welcome any angler, no matter what part of the globe they live. If your sons are avid fishermen, plan a trip, and don't worry, enjoy the pint, and the scenery.There is salmon fishing that is cheap and the loughs are free, just getting to know them is the key. Certainly a good trip for the mayfly. I've fished the drowse once on invitation, hard to get a beat, always booked up, Melvin is a cracking lough, but there is a lot more to see. But this year seems to be a wipe-out. Stay safe, regards Dave,

Hi Mark I have gone on a few trips to Ireland with my family and would recommend it the welcome and advice I had when I went fishing was as good as anywhere . I fished the Moy and after asking around for advice on where to go ended up being invited to have a day up above Foxford . I never managed to catch anything but had some Guinness in one of the local pubs that we were made most welcome and the banter was entertaining .. (just remembered I had a sea trout about 6lb) wish I had taken a camera .... I hope that you make the effort .👌😉

Lovely bit of water. Nice video I'm not a salmon fly Fisher but your second rod you used was presenting the fly nicer on the water, was that the different rod or a smaller fly?
@IainSB4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gav the first rod was a heavier set up I think its a ten weight rod and the other is a 5/6 wt and a lot lighter fly. I added a video earlier of myself assembling it after buying the kit from Bloke rods... I have only used it a couple of times and would love to get out again and give it some exorcise.. Cheers Iain 🥃

Hi Mr Blademan I am not sure if its you or me you are referring to with the doubles if you have been looking at my videos and found that I have , a lot of the time two singles on . the reason for the two singles ...... I find that they sit high in the water when fishing with a floating polly leader and its easier to unhook a fish on a single iron. If its yourself you that is using singles .... well done , a man after my own heart . Tight Lines on the lower Rogue.. Stay safe . Cheers Iain 🥃🎣
@MichaelPhillips-jw4bj3 жыл бұрын
Doubles and trebles have been used for centuries in atlantic/baltic salmon fishing.. they're mouth's are different then your steelhead. They're in general softer where the double gets a much better penetration. Most of if not all the steelhead fishing culture was brought over from europe. Then things were fine tuned for the differences. The doubles didn't work our we would be using them at least initially as conservation wasn't a big issue

Hello Iain. Just watched Drew's FB video ,on KZbin, about his salmon catch. With a couple of clicks , I was directed to your KZbin fishing videos, which I subscribed to.I also watched the video posted May 1, 2020. (I didn't realize Drew was interested in fishing.) These videos make me sentimental and it's great hearing your and Drew's voice. By the way ( a stupid question), do salmon really swim upstream? Hope to see you ,Frances and Drew some day.

Hi Judy I am glad that you added a comment . It has been quite a while since you left to go back to the USA . I hope that you and your family are doing well and your mum I believe is still going strong and well over 90 years old. I have never met Nancy and Frances has told me so much about her that I feel that I do, can you say hello from me and wish her all the best. I know Jamie stayed in New York and it must have been a worry for you . please tell him that our thoughts are with him and tell him to look after himself and his girl friend.... Salmon spend three years in the river after they hatch and then migrate to the sea for at least one winter and sometimes two or three then return to the same river that they hatched from and head up stream to spawn and carry on the life cycle . stay safe all the best . Cheers Iain
