I can't get enough of this performance! The second guitar solo is incredible, and that keyboardist is absolutely on-point. I could listen to him jam for hours. I love how the crowd erupts too, there was a lot of energy at that show.

Incredible! JB would be proud.. Jimmy is a monster but geez look at these young cats playing with him. Awesome 🎸🎶
@Salmonpat Жыл бұрын
That's kind of funny!!! Young Cats!!! The drummer is 60! Bass player is getting up there as well, keyboard player Matt, Jimmy & Jeff all played with Aquarium Rescue Unit, all pretty much the same age!

Have loved this track since the mid/late 80s! Jimmy is one of the best ppl to cover this! Just recently after decades I started listening to Sophie again!! Maybe it’s a sign…

Yeah - it’s a sign of the strong, lifelong preference inherent in your information seeking pattern :D

Came here to listen to Beck's masterpiece. Leaving with a goal of getting lessons from Jimmy. He NAILS Beck's vibrato. Scary good.

Jeff told me he went to school with one of Jeff Beck's drummers, Michael Narada Walden (Berkley, I think). He remembers when Narada got the call to join Mahavishnu Orchestra!

There's another version of this from 2010 from a gig in SC, also great. But, Jimmy was really in the zone here, this performance has all the good stuff. magic. The intervallic stuff phrases he sneaks in here, so slick.

Jimmy and the boys just ripped a new asshole into that tune. That was awesome.

Other than the original lineup for this song, this is by far the best cover version I've heard.
@thebreathalyzer4 жыл бұрын
Agree 100%. The spirit of this is so on-point with the spirit in the original. Jimmy channels his "inner Jeff" on the melody choruses and goes off during the solo!

Honestly I have never heard anyone try to cover JB

Listen to Narada's redo on the album "Rising Sun".That whole album still gives me goosebumps.

God, I love this. They do a GREAT job at a very difficult song. I just wish I hadn't heard the real studio version from the master's so many times. I am nit picking at things that are done very well. I wonder if Jimmy could try it with a little less overdrive and finger-pick a little more soul into some of the slower passages. Well I'm in either way. Nice band I need to explore some more.

I really miss Shawn and had to listen to some of his stuff just last week, what is exceptional is his cover of Mike Stern's Upside Downside. It is loaded here somewhere

@@porkbelly0713 Another great cover Shawn did was Steve Morse's "The Introduction". Steve said Shawn did it better.

Jimmys on fire, damn - his tone seems a bit more Eric Johnson-esque in this recording, that is to say a bit more hornlike than the harmonica style thing ..
@tpzid4 жыл бұрын
He uses a Blackface Super mounted into a head with a 4x10 cabinet. Cant argue with that tone....
@porkbelly07134 жыл бұрын
yes, tremendous tone to die for
@jakollee Жыл бұрын
Agreed, the thing about Jimmy's tone I always notice is it's never harsh, even when he's playing very loud. It's always sweet and smooth sounding!

Excellent guitar player. Drummer- chew some gum before play this song. Bassplayer- snatch his ass OFF the stage. Needs to go back and listen to the song and play with some kind of urgency instead of posing for the groupies. Sorry, I've played bass since the 60's and I'm just some old guy ranting.
@PhilipJBernardi5 жыл бұрын
The thing about this song is the drumming. The drummer does a good job for not being Walden. 😉 When I first heard this song on Wired, Walden's drumming carried the song with Jeff and Jan filling in. 😁
