Everything became so simple when I thought of it this way: On1 is break step step and On2 is step break step. On2 feels more smooth because the break step is sandwiched between two smaller steps. On1 feels more staccato because the break happens right away on the "quick quick slow" measure. To make matters even more confusing Palladium 2 (or Cuban 2?) is essentially the same as On1 - in that it also goes break step step - but we just start the break on 2 instead of 1. It took me years to understand all of this. In the end the beginners cannot tell the difference. But seasoned people stress when having to switch to a different style. It feels as if you are starting all over again (at least at first).

Dancing on 2 is stepping to the Clave in the music:stepping to 2-3 and 6-7. Emphasizing this count in music while dancing to a song will discover the magic of mambo) The more you count doing this, the more you will develop an ear for dancing this "groove line" (aka Clave) sources (Cuban Pete, Eddie Torres). Is it normal if you dance very well in 2 and for you, just don’t make sense of turning on to dance in1? Is it common in some place, I keep trying to fix it all the time!! I love dancing salsa in 2💃🏼 but in 1 it is almost stressful 😅

A useful reminder of one of the basic moves. They both look the same and you make them look easy and elegant! I found On1 difficult enough, without worrying about On 2 which I understood from reading and hearing from others is more difficult 😂

I'm still curious about the difference between dancing On1 and On2, because the break in On2 is just the same On1 but breaking in 2. It never breaks the 123 567 and replace ir for the 234 678, close to the son pattern.
@SalsaBailaProductions4 ай бұрын
Yes close but the steps are different… the son would be the on1 step moved to 2… no modification on the steps. But the actual on2 when theres the 1 beat you step with the right foot… and the pause one foot moves. On1 no feet moves. On son during the pause no feet move. Hope this clarifies

The main difference about NY Style and Palladium Mambo is the counting. NY Style (123,567) and Palladium (234, 678). Both are On2. In fact, in this vídeo, the instructor begins stepping NY but then in the middle of the secuence, starts stepping 234, 678, like Palladium mambo.

One element is that the on2 goes forward on the second beat of the music
@javiermendez9365 Жыл бұрын
Another way to explain it is that, on 1 with partner, the lead starts with their left foot moving forward and on 2 going backwards with partner (this step is also known as mambo) I believe in NY this step changes and is forward. But for now, just focus on 1 moving forward and on 2 moving backwards when you start your count (the beat). When practicing alone it reverses in a way, except that 1 you start your left moving forward and on 2 moving forward with your right.
