Salsa Stormchaser project build: Pt 1

If now isn't the perfect time to build up a singlespeed mud specific gravel bike I don't know when is. So here we go with a new project based around the gorgeously golden Salsa Stormchaser.

Got a Salsa SC too. Mine’s 1x10 with a Tiagra shifter/GRX mech hack. Running 700x50 tyres and a dropper; rips around the woods.

Be interesting to see how you get on with a Single speed gravel bike. Coming from someone who has always enjoyed single speed mountain bikes, I personally didn’t get on with it on a gravel bike, due to the fact that that I had to gear it up either for road or off road, and ended up being a bit too much of a compromise - where a gravel bike should be good on both!

That could be the issue for sure. We’ll see I guess but I don’t stir a lot of road into my gravel recipes

I have thought about building a Salsa Stormchaser. I would go single speed. As I live on the boarder of the West Midlands and Staffordshire. It wouldn't be too much of an issue with the uphill. Until my local cycling club does a ride in the Peak district or further north. I'm really looking forward to this build.

Have a singlespeed stormchaser it's my bike with the highest mileage. Use it as a rain bike as well as winter beater but also doubles well as an urban or family bike trip/path ride as the singlespeed removes the need to shift and risk of having to stop and find yourself flat footed. Very responsive, fun and versatile I cannot say enough good things about the singlespeed idea in a high(ish) end bike like this. The one thing I don't like is the brakes are mediocre as it doesn't slow down or stop that well.

Loving this one too. Are you still on the stock cable brakes?
