Mr. Walsh, thank you for doing these videos. My daddy was a very wonderful bluegrass fiddle player, he wrote and composed a couple of tunes you may know, one was the Hillbilly fiddler and Struttin Rooster.....John L. Sloas, he passed in 1987 and I've noticed that the old time fiddlers are far and few between, so at the age of 51, I've decided that I am going too "with the help of the good Lord" try too learn this unique sound and carry it on to my nieces and nephews!!

@1xstew you should try to place the "balance" of the left hand between the 4th finger and the 1st, or 2nd, or whatever. It can be done even with small hands.. or you should get a smaller fiddle, if your in 4th grade or something

Mrs. Sheridan Hi just learned this on the banjo ( self taught. Or better yet utube taught since Coronavirus on both the banjo and violin ) This would be fun to learn on the violin too. Is there a way to get the music ? I hate to say I need a little more work on the violin.... bit more difficult using the bow “Musician “ since 1975 Thanks for the video information Mrs .S

Ian, for those of us who can sight-read music, all we need is the sheet music. Can you recommend a sheet music source for red-hot Bluegrass fiddle breaks? Thanks.

Hey John. I would caution you that if you intend to be jamming and playing by ear, and improvising, learning it by ear really imprints the music in your body in a way that reading the music does not. This coming from a fellow reader!
