She's always been as much a part of the group as the other 2 to me. Never mind whether she's included in the name or not (it wouldn't sound right if she was). Group names aren't to be taken literally--people asking "which one's Kris and which one's Kross is one example. DJ's have always been a vital element of Hip Hop culture and aren't "interchangeable". That's dirty of them. Please reconsider, ladies. En Vogue broke up, a member of TLC passed... the last thing we need is for the last good female group to break up for no damn reason.
@mojadah102 жыл бұрын
Thats just it. She wasn't as much a part of the group. Salt n Pepa came up together (before success), made a name for themselves, found fame and had hits before Spin was brought into the mix. At some point they added her as a dj bc thay was the thing at the time. Every big rap act had a personal dj. I don't think they're being shady towards her. They just don't think she deserves 'equal' recognition bc she wasn't an equal part of the process. She wasn't in the trenches.
@keepsit100atalltime92 жыл бұрын
Doesn't matter how much she thinks she did for the group she is not a member. She worked for them, the contract was with them. They are the brand, they were platinum before her. And her success is bc of them. They didn't have to bring her to the forefront but they did bc they were trying to help her. They owe her nothing, if anything she owes them. I don't understand why this is so hard to get.

I’m the same age as them, and also from NYC. I can remember the love the city had for them before Spinderella arrived. And when she did I don’t remember people even noticing her for a long time afterwards. It was kind of like that for the DJ’s in groups or behind a solo artist, where DJ’s were like a visual aesthetic. I personally would have still loved Salt n Pepa with or without Spin, as I became a big fan before she was in the picture. But maybe that’s because I was local. She deserves for her contracts to be honored so she can get her money. But I agree DJ’s just don’t shine the same the as the artist. Fans don’t come out to see the DJ’s or the sound system people, even though they are a part of the show collectively, people come for the lyricists

Exactly! People don't understand how that works. Back n the day djs were like an accessory and everybody didn't have a DJ or acknowledge the DJ. SnP were platinum before this Spin came along, and they were a duo. Spin was employed by them, she worked for them. The fact that they brought her to the fore front says a lot about them. It was a girl empowerment move in a male dominated field. Spin was paid I'm sure for her services. She ended up leaving the group at one point and came back. Why come back if they were such horrible ppl.? It was explained on their reality show on BET Ladies Night w)SWV. I could tell Spin has some deep emotional issues. Salt n Pepa never said spin wasn’t part of the group but spin wanted it to be split equally amongst the three and salt n Pepa doesn’t see it that way. They took Hurby to court to get the rights to their name and catalog and spin was always part of the group but salt and Pepa owns the name
@CrowdSpectator244 ай бұрын
This was my understanding of the situation. So, I could see both sides. Sure SnP could have easily put everything aside and just took her in the fold and all, split it all equal and the fans would have thought that was "fair"... but realisticly, I think Spin knew what it was (business wise) but pushed for more anyway on the strength of time, sisterhood, their platform, and they stuck to the original understanding and deal, and Spin's feelings got hurt. I wish them all the best. But Spin could have also really thanked them for the platform and used that to make her way (which I believe they encouraged). Then I think it would have been justified to secure the name Spinderella and even negotiate (if possible) a little royalties off of some of the old memorabilia and art. Unfortunately, she was in the position to approach them humbly, not the other way around, and I believe it could have been a more favorable outcome for all of them. :/

If you have cable go and watch episodes 6-8 of the reality show Ladies Night SnP w/SWV on BET. You'll get a clearer picture of how things were between them. You will also see Spin saw she was leaving the group but SnP got tired of her tantrums and let her go before she could say anything. They told her to her face. They were sad but it had to be done. Spin is not innocent. And ppl don't know she had left the group before. Why ask to come back if they were such horrible ppl and sign the same contract?

Firstly, I never knew that Salt-N-Pepa, Kid 'n Play, *and* Martin Lawrence worked together at Sears! That explains why Martin Lawrence was in the early House Party movies and that crappy Kid 'n Play cartoon. Secondly, it's shitty how Salt and Pepa never really considered (the second but iconic) Spinderella a member of their group. DJ Run/Rev. Run and DMC always considered Jam Master Jay the third member of theit group before he became an official member. That's why they broke up the group when he got murdered. They reunite every now and then but they've said that they can never fully reform without Jay!

She was doing the DJ tricks like what DJ Scatch, Jazzy Jeff, Joe Cooley, & Rhettmatic have done. There was only one other female that can stand toe to toe with the fellas DJing next to "Spin" there's "DJ Jazzy Joyce" from the Bronx... 💯🔥❤💯🔥❤💯🔥❤

The way Salt N Pepa treated Spinderalla is sad and unfortunate. Spinderalla was a dynamic, integral part of the group and a legend in Hip Hop. Why do her like that? Very surprising of Salt / Cheryl as a "devout Christian" why be nasty to your fellow Black sister. Smh.

I grew up listening to them and the unique part was they were 3 females which represented girl power. I saw them take her from being a dj to dancing with them but the group is a duo not a trio. Spinderella could have been replaced as a female dj but not Salt or Pepa, Spin should receive recognition for projects she was on but they don't need to know include her in future negotiations They're a duo not a trio. Maybe their problem with her is she seem too entitled and a little ungrateful at the opportunity these women gave her. Financially, shes not doing bad.

You are correct! From a business standpoint Spin was not apart of the brand, she worked for SnP. She signed the contract to work for them not with them. Had it not been for SnP we probably wouldn't know who Spin is. Because of them she got some exposure, they didn't have to do that. Female rappers were/are rare and female djs were/are even rarer. I'm sure she was compensated for her work but there is no way I would give her 1/3 of the money either. They were the ones in the boardrooms taking the hits and they were platinum before she even came along. If anything she needs to thank them for their help.

@@davidwheeler3201 So is this business or is this personal? The fact of the matter is that Spin signed a contract to work for SnP. Whatever that entailed that's what she signed up for. What ppl keep forgetting is the era they came out in. Female rappers were very rare, female djs were even rarer. Had it not been for SnP shouting out Spin and bringing her to the forefront (which they didn't have to do) no one would know who she is. Why is this so hard? The brand is SnP, 2 ladies. They are the one's who put in work to make that name what it is today. They didn't need Spin. They were platinum before she came along. I'm sure she was paid for any additions she added but she is not 1/3 of the group. And they have the contract to prove it. Like I said she needs to be apologizing to them. If they were so evil why did she come back after leaving? Why didn't she protest way back then. Somebody probably got in her ear. It's clear to me that she doesn't understand business.

Yes, before What A Man she rapped on a couple of songs on their 3rd album called Black’s Magic.. (Negro wit an Ego, the title track , Black’s Magic, I Don’t Know & I like to Party.) I think It was around the time when Pepa was having problems with Hurby, the producer ,and I think she was also having her daughter. Spin would also go on to Rap on a couple of Movie Soundtracks ( The Player’s Club) and also Very Special with Big Daddy Kane. It just baffles me at how they did her and I absolutely love Salt N Pepa … just a jacked up situation 🤦🏾♂️😩
