Prior to becoming a state park, the campground was privately owned. A group of us would always book the Boondocks. We’d have 4-5 tents there. Did I see some kind of shelter there? The only thing there in my time was an outhouse. But we loved it. After the owners sold it to the state, the Boondocks and that whole area off the loop were closed. It’s nice to see it open again. I never ended up going back there, but have a lot of fond memories of the place.

Just wanted to thank you guys for your guidance concerning this campground! My girl and i have not camped for a very long time and didn't know where to start. # 40 was perfect for us. Mostly quiet, everyone was super nice, amazing fire pit. Loved it. Thanks for your help !!

My favorite video yet! I'm loving the family vibe, the chill music selection, and those out-skirt sites make me want to check this park out. Also glad to see #JarrettIsFree... to enjoy the nature 😄👍

Dee & Lee - Just wanted to extend a big thanks for sharing these videos of the various campgrounds in the NE! We are a family of five with three kids ages 10, 8 & 6 and go camping in our popup along with our dog. Last August we moved to CT from outside Chicago and your videos have been extremely helpful. For this camping season, we have already have reservations booked at Salt Rock, Housatonic Meadows and North-South Lake Campground to name a few. Best of luck on the van conversion; can't wait to see the results! Thanks again and keep the trips and videos going! - Mark Castro

Thanks so much for this in-depth tour. It helped us pick out the perfect site at Salt Rock, a place we hadn't visited before. We put our 8 man tent in the rear of our site #67 and had plenty of space. The hike along the river was great too. The place was only 1/3 full when we went, even though Reserve America showed it as completely sold out. Weird!

That’s awesome. Yes for some reason reserve america has been showing sites as booked that actually aren’t. Definitely weird

I’ve been camping here since the mid 90s when it was privately owned. Before the state took it over it was many families second home as they’d leave their trailers there all year round. It would be fully packed every weekend it was open. They did “Christmas in July” and the Halloween event during Columbus Day weekend was always a big party. Made a lot of friends here as a kid too. This place is really something special. Thanks for making this great video. Also gotta give a shout out to original owner Dewey for making such a fun place to camp.

Thx for watching and the great information.. Christmas in July sounds like an amazing time. I could just imagine Halloween , it must of been special, wish they had amenities like that now. I’m sure it would be a hit due to this places rustic feel. I’m with you ( big shout out to Dewey). ✌🏽❤️

Hey all! In case you didn't get the CT Parks email, the pool is permanently closed. The state agreed to keep it open until it needed major work. Well, that time has come. But the river is still open as always!
