Why only 77k subscriber when this is by far the best sailing channel. And I love that boat, better than a 60's Chevy truck rugged and sturdy timeless style and soo sexy. Where else can you gut your fish right on deck and just rinse it. "Oh no no no ho la-la I just buffed the gel coat ,don't drop it it gonna stain it",is the usual bore. Or "watch out you are scratching the finish" gets you 200K subscriber

This episode leads my thoughts back to 1979 while I was living in Ca., being an avid motorcycle rider, always traveling. A decision was made between my girlfriend at the time and another couple who rode a lot to ride the US and then onto Europe. As it turned out we never made it to Europe although we did travel the US, I never had and haven't since felt the freedom we all felt to pick a spot on the map, travel till we wanted to stop. The destinations were just an excuse to ride.

The clouds looked promising for wind probably the next day :-) seeing those here in the afternoon mostly means tomorrow comes the wind 🌬️ but the weather language got a bit messed up with global warming. Reading the weather in Greece works better than doing so in the German Bight. Hopefully you’ll get the idea to com over here.

This channel inspired me to buy Buehler's backyard boatbuilding book. I really like his no nonsense, anti elitist approach. I think when I build a big boat, it will be one of his designs (after all I'm but a humble working man with a family). And seeing you guys successfully construct and subsequently sail one of these craft really inspires confidence in the design and designer, especially when so many elements of the process flew in the face of the orthodoxy of "proper" boatbuilding.
@SaltandTar
@SaltandTar Жыл бұрын
Yes! One thing Garrett has mentioned about Buehler's plans is that they are a little vague, so good thing you've already read the book. His designs are wonderful and building one requires a lot of common sense... not as many people have that these days haha Garrett's looked at many other designs and plans and other naval archtects do remove a lot of doubt by spelling out exact dimensions and measurements. Buehler keeps it very simple. Just something to take note of. We are extremely happy with Rediviva! Some aspects were maybe a little more difficult being G's first big build. We regret nothing so don't take this as negative just a "wish we knew" before building ;) Love, love, love his 'anybody can do it' attitude. He's not wrong. A quote I always liked was "if you start, you'll finish" easier said than done but as long as we didn't quit and give up we did "finish" 😅 Good luck and don't forget to have fun and take your time 😊 ~Ruthie

Guys in Australia we use Vinegar to neutralize stingers in jellyfish tendrils on someone's skin so I wonder if it would still work for species elsewhere? Brushing a jellyfish tendril in contact with your skin with anything can make a it rotate which can cause it to discharge additional stings.

Interesting to hear your thoughts on the future. An ocean crossing and the South Pacific sounds perfect. Maybe more in the future you could come to the Mediterranean and Europe. Ever since we start school we are being pushed to challenge ourselves, to achieve more, to be better, to be competitive etc, so being relaxed and chilling out and not having to be somewhere or do something can feel a bit unnatural. I found this when I retired but the actual challenge is to embrace this new relaxed life and be able to really enjoy it, but also to be self motivated.

Perhaps I'm being repetetive, but some folks groused about your material selection and so on on Reddit. Yet it has proved to have been a very meticulous design with deep consideration of.. well.. everything, and a year plus into it the sailing portion seems to be great. Yes, a wooden boat with twin booms is more work with the rigging and sheets but it all seems to work well with your lifestyle and approach. This just validates your committment to an idea and ideal.. so I hope this keeps on goin' on until you decide on executing on the next IDEA. Congratulations!
