I just realized that during the tutoring scene, the teacher immediately calls out Ollie's bullshit from the start: "Nobody can read that! It's 50 books!"
@lettylunasical47669 ай бұрын
100% some viewers end up believing a lot of what Oliver says, but Oliver is a liar. The film hints he is't as smart as he makes out; he is unlikely to have read all the books, he had to read up on the plates purposely before pretending he just knew about art and pottery, Felix bursts out laughing when the parents say Oliver is Oxford "top scholar" and his plan to kill the family was likely made up on the fly - he originally just wanted Felix.
@ofkitsune13559 ай бұрын
Yep, its was more obvious when I watched it the second time. But I still have mixed feelings about those lecture beacause Archie clearly didnt do anything about his study, like literally I dont even know what he was doing at the school. 😀 I just hated everyone in this movie.
@stacym318 ай бұрын
Good call! I just thought Oliver was an over achiever, reading all 50 books. But it was BS from the get go. However, he was an overachiever, did all he had to, to win the castle. 😏
@chloestarshine2 ай бұрын
As an avid reader who averages over 100 books a year myself this is one thing that I just accepted at first, like maybe he'd already read some of the books before if he reads a lot like I do, but clearly it turned out he was not that type of person and it started to not check out for him, haha. It's all clearer the second time around. Such a fascinating unreliable narrative.

Yeah. Sir James is super cute and endearing. The way his face lights up when Oliver pretends to show interest in history. I'm glad Oliver didn't murder him like the rest of the Catton family.

@@johnnyblue07 right?! So sweet! And when he gets excited to wear his suit of armor. And how he leans forward to engage and meet Oliver. And yet he had to do all the dirty work so Elsbeth wouldn’t have to (Running off Pamela, Farleigh, Oliver), so he still is respectable.

10/10 the whole movie is about putting clues everywhere in every shots because Oliver is telling the story to us and manipulating us the same way he did to them. Felix is so handsome and you want to embrace their relationship but then he switch up. The cinematography is really top notch. You get to understand the intentions of Oliver by his facial expression and the way he’s waiting on Felix or the others to trust him and has pity for him. Once I realized that I said « ok he’s a manipulator » the fact that Oliver missed his hit with the stone because his father wasn’t dead…

38:13 What makes this even more wild is the fact that was improvised. To film the scene, a limited amount of crew members were present. And according to Barry Keoghan: "On the day, I was like, 'Can I try something?' I wanted to see what the next level of obsession was. So I asked for a closed set," he said. "I wanted to see where it went. It could have gone completely wrong but I think it moved the story." "I just wanted the camera to roll," he said. "Not to kind of preempt it or rehearse it and what happened, happened. It was one take, and I think it was right."

final twist could have been Duncan coming into focus behind Oliver at the puppet theatre with a large spade over his shoulder, hefting the the spade, screen goes to black as we hear Olivers body hit the deck! I think only Duncan and Farley made it out alive! ps I think the 4 by 3 ratio made the whole thing claustrophobic

Fun fact: Barry Keoghan marked his script Oliver #1, Oliver #2, Oliver #3 and so on earmarking & representing the different psycho Oliver's needed. Genius. Some of the shots look like paintings. Everybody thinks the maths genius is the crazy one at the beginning but it's Oliver that's the real psychopath! The trailer also misleads you and gives nothing away. The film is a masterpiece in lies, greed, envy, psychology, power, obsession, classism, revenge, deception & manipulation. This movie should win so many awards- especially for the cinematography, the soundtrack, wardrobe/costume design, the set design etc... but it won't because of how uncomfortable some of the scenes are.

This has to be one of your funniest reactions ever! Really it's about the English Aristocracy and how out of touch with reality they are because they can afford to be.
