I don’t know if you noticed, but also the characters’ deaths were kind of hinted/foreshadowed. At the beginning Bobby Lynne walks out from that trailer that has a mural with an alligator on it. Wayne says “People’s eyes are gonna pop out of their skulls when they see this!” at one point of the movie, and we know what happened to him. Jackson says “Had enough farmers trying to shoot me for one lifetime” and well.. Wayne tells Lorraine “I wouldn’t wanna give the old codger a heart attack, would you?”, and she causes him (indirectly) a heart attack. I found all of that really cool and subtle, but really works out 👌

@@duchess93 yeah I've seen the movie 3 times and I noticed it until that last watch lol first I caught Wayne's 'eyes out of the skull' comment, and then I started to pay more attention to the dialogues and see if there was more, and I found those others pieces of dialogue. A friend of mine discovered the Bobby Lynne one because I was too focused on dialogues only that I didn't pay attention to other types of hints. But yeah maybe there are more hints out there that I haven't discovered yet haha if I see it one more time I'll try to find more 👻

@@manuelaguilera7928 around the time it was on it's festival run TI West(director) hinted that there is a very hidden Easter Egg in the film not many people will pick up on... I think i seen it when I saw this in the theater, but I can't remember if it was Jenna Ortega or her boyfriend during the scene when everyone is sitting around drinking beer one of them is drinking a regional(from like Texas) brand of beer from around 70's call Pearl brand beer( It might be a white can or at least a different color can than the rest were consuming). It's a blink and you miss it type thing. Not sure if it's actually true or if that was just made up to be used as a Easter Egg. I however will mention that the old couple were based on a real life couple from Missouri that were tried and convicted in the 80's for hiring drifters and undocumented farm hands and then offing them when they started to demand payment for services completed and burying them on the farm. The reason the wife was implemented in the crimes(the husband had already done time for writing bad checks in the late 50's) were when officials did their search of the couples house they found a quilt made of several bloodied articles of clothing that belonged to the missing workers and a "grocery list" with their names on it with a red X next to the name written in her hand writing. This went on for close to 20 years prior(so very likely this occurred in real life the same time the fictional events in X took place).

It’s super clever how this film reverses the usual tropes of horror. The young, sexy people are actually quite nice, and them making porn isn’t presented as something to hate them for. Each one of them dies trying to help someone else. The old woman is jealous and bitter of their youth and sexual freedom, and only calls them whores after she tries and fails to reclaim that sexual energy. Maxine is terrified of ending up like her, which is a theme that is hammered home by the fact that the old woman is Mia Goth in old lady makeup. That’s the main theme of the film - the horror of growing old from both sides. The old people have to watch what they once were, and the young people have to see what they will become.

Another great trope subversion this film does is how the act of sex isn't "punished." Usually, when it comes to 70s and 80s slashers, the good-looking young folk who get a little freaky in the sheets, they are immediately offed by the killer and the "pure" virginal soul survives. But in this film, *everybody* horny and gets some, even the decrepit antagonists lol

I’m always so happy when people respond to interesting, well made films that takes chances, either with the material or the style (or both). There are so many uninteresting, ‘cookie cutter’ type films being made now & when people respond positively to films like this it lets the big movie companies know that these types of movies can be profitable, which helps to keep us from being completely overwhelmed by those (mostly) awful, cookie cutter films.

I mean, you said it when you said the film is like a slasher porn. Pearl couldn't have sex with her husband, so instead she got her rush by murdering people, and her husband was doing what he could to please her. This is basically a 70s style slasher film done to perfection, without being boring or predictable.

Yup it was originally supposed to be a stand alone film but the the pandemic had brought stateside productions to a halt and Ti while filming this came up with the idea to film another for even less money because of a smaller cast. He wrote it while on set and got the go ahead.

Little factoid. Jenna was 18 when she filmed X and had one stipulation for Ti West and that was that she would only do a no nudity off camera implied sex scene because she wasnt ready to bare all in a film. He agreed and thats what ended up in the movie. Shes also said in interviews she had alot of fun making this, loved the prostetics process and even took a nap while getting the face cast done which is usually somthing that freaks people out. She also went on her first bar crawl with the cast and since the legal drinking age in New Zealand is 18 she was allowed too and claims she never wants to get that drunk ever again. Lol Famously while she was on set after being up for 24 hours doing night shoots for her death scene and still covered in fake blood/sweat she did a face time call with Tim Burton about Wednesday in which he laughed at her with approval. She called it a bonding moment between the two of them and the rest is history.

There are visual and verbal cues, which explain how each victim dies. (examples: Wayne said that the audience's eyes would pop out of their head; Bpbbi-Lynne showed up coming out of a building with an *alligator* on it) The innuendo in the wrap-up -- I loved this. This movie was everything at once: Funny, scary, violent, sexual and arousing. Basically all what one wants from a movie. 😁 All the allusions from you made me laugh and smile, great reaction, very entertaining! 👌 Only a small sad thing for me, so many channels reacted to X but basically nobody reacts to xXx (Triple X) from 2002. Despite the title it has even less to do with porn than this one had. Would love a reaction, it's a damn crazy action flick with good old Vin Diesel. I know everyone is talking about "Pearl" as the inevitable sequel watch... BUT when Steven said THIS film is fucked up -- dude, wait until you see Pearl, a movie that Martin Scorcese said disturbed him. Scorcese. Got disturbed. "X" actually has a lot to say about sexuality, human frailty and potency, and what we as an audience find arousing. And literally this film situates all the power and sexual energy within the female roles: Jenna Ortega, Maxine and the old lady (I won't say her name yet). Btw this is far from being "murder porn," since ironically the young director was trying to make an art film and elevate the sex. Meanwhile, the old couple reveal all the nasty violence, unhinged libido and truly distorted values of society at large. Think about how much sense the "porn cast" made when they soft preached about the role of sex, power and pure honesty about desire, morality. Compared to this old couple's horrendous vices, everybody in the van could be in the church choir! P.S. Steven kept asking WHY?WHY!? Answer: In one word -- Pearl. And be careful what you ask for.
