I lived in Saltburn for several months and met some great people. This is a wonderful video and reminds me of my great time in Saltburn, also called "Sunny Saltburn". Thank you very much.

Beautiful town will probably stop off here before we head down to whitby in July for our holiday. North Yorkshire has some beautiful towns and villages
@LetsWalkUK3 жыл бұрын
A great idea! Whitby certainly gets a lot of the plaudits on the Yorkshire coast (and rightly so), but a stop in Saltburn is certain to make a great day by the sea even better! The drive between the two towns is spectacular in and of itself, and so are some of the villages along the way too :) Thank you so much for watching - I really hope you enjoyed the video, and that you have a great holiday in July!

First class passengers had their own platform that was located inside the Zetland hotel. The trains actually went inside the hotel. What a perfect day for a video . Fascinating about the Pease bricks.

1:39 That's it. The first house on the right. Lived there in the mid 60s, 44 Diamond St, moved up to Milton Road. It is an amazing place I still remember the horses and donkey ride. The pull rope boat swings. The old picture house with the Saturday morning matinee. David Coverdale live in the Red Lion pub across the street The first large corner house as he turned into Diamond Street on the left. He cut his arm when he tripped and went through our the glass door. I still return there as often as I can. Beautiful place really beautiful.

Last time I was there a couple or so years ago, it was a beautiful day. We walked round the gardens at the south end by the river, had dinner in the pub on there too. The pier had all knitted characters on it too. We sat on a very cheap deckchair (something of a rarity nowadays) in the sun for a couple of hours. Really relaxing day out.

The railway actually terminated INSIDE the Hotel at the end of the line and was only shortened to the current station some time in the 1970's. So when originally built a passenger could take the train from London or York (for example) and with a couple of changes be inside the Hotel looking out to sea.

Another wonderful video, much appreciated. I may have the incorrect spelling but I always looked forward to riding in the funicular, (Cliff Lift), down to the lower section of this glorious coastal town. Used to cost one (old) penny back in the day, lol. Having seen at least 3 of your coastal walks from around the N. Yorks coast I'm reminded just how strong the Methodist faith seemed to be in these towns. Whenever we went to any of these holiday destinations we had to go to Mass on the Sunday after we'd arrived. I'm not sure how Mam would've coped had there not been a Catholic church, lol. Thank you for all the magnificent work you put into these videos.
@LetsWalkUK3 жыл бұрын
Ooh a ride down the Cliff Lift is as spectacular as it gets on this part of the coast - and it's always been rather well-priced, especially for one penny back in the day! I thought Saltburn was in Cleveland?
@susanofhullhumberside47533 жыл бұрын
Cleveland only lasted from 1974 to 1996. It was abolished with all land south of the River Tees going back into Yorkshire eg Middlesbrough, Redcar and Saltburn, and land north of the Tees going back to Durham (eg Stockton and Hartlepool). Cleveland was hated from the start so seeing it dissolved was inevitable.

Though the town is nice,the beach area is very run down and shabby,and the pier looks like it needs a serious makeover,rusty railing and peeling paintwork,all very tired and depressing.

Beautiful beach with a marvellous cliff, but the actual town is awful. Not a single good fish and chips shop in sight!

Ah that's a shame. I'd regularly visit Saltburn with family in the 60s/70s, from Middlesbrough, it and Redcar being destinations for 'day trips' on the bus. I have fond memories of being able to eat delicious fish n chips there. Someone's missed a trick by not investing in a good chippy!

There are 3 good fish and chip shops on the seafront and 1 near the church.
