Saltdean to Brighton Marina

One from the past before Covid struck. Saltdean is a small town on the South coast of the UK and it has a flat wide path on the under cliff on which you can walk to Brighton Marina. We like to combine the walk with lunch out and on this day we had lunch at Nandos.

I did a course down there in the 70's at Artex for ornamental ceiling/wall work. I drove down in my Sunbeam Rapier. So your video brought back many happy memories.

We missed Nado’s when we went to the UK in 2017. Hoping to make it to Ireland and Northern Ireland this fall ( if covid allows) and hopefully we will try it then.

There we go again, food looked good, we have done this walk, my late wife and I so many times, when staying on the Caravan Club site behind the Marina, In fact only a couple of weeks after she passed away I did the walk stopping at the tea kiosk where you sometimes stop, got talking as you do whilst there and the man i was talking too could not believe I was there just after losing my dear Wife, but I told him if I stayed in doors I would just scream, I found solace in being and seeing other people, my Wife loved walking beside the sea, more videos please, Regards to you both, Colin.

We can well understand just how much that walk must mean to you as Carol and I have completed it many times over the years just like you and your wife did. Its a beautiful location and being there must bring back many happy memories. We have often thought about moving to Saltdean so that when we finally need a mobility scooter we would be able to get down on that underpass and continue to enjoy it. All the very best to you. ❤️

I used to have a coffee shop in Rottingdean in the 80's , in those days there was an open air swimming pool down on the undercliff at Rottingdean, see its gone now, Happy memories, were hopefully going to The MH+C site at Brighton later in the year, so must have a nostalgic wander along the undercliff.

I remember swimming in that pool when I was a youngster, it was lovely. I think it’s where the basketball court is now. Hope you get to visit Brighton later this year and have a lovely time 👍🙂

Living in Kent we have often stayed at Pevensey or Brighton and visited the local area. Also worked in Brighton for a year many moons ago. Thanks for the memories. One day you can enjoy lunch in Nandos again.

Hi Ken and Carol, thanks for the reminder that when this pandemic is tamed " I must go down to the sea again......... as John Masefield would say. I have never been to a Nandos but it looks like my kind of food. I do have their seasoning salt in my spice cupboard though, bought on a whim in Sainsburys and it does wonders for a couple of boiled eggs on a Sunday morning 🤔😉

There are far more people out walking and running than before covid came. Lots of people trying to improve their fitness as a defence against contracting it and trying to escape the boredom of being indoors. As you say even busier where its beautiful to walk 👍

It's a lovely walk but you have to keep your eyes open or you'll miss something that will surprise you. The last time my wife and I walked along the undercliff path, my wife spotted a bird she didn't recognise perched on the cliff face, about thirty feet above us. When I looked at it, I immediately recognised it as a Peregrine Falcon, surveying the area for a possible meal. What a brilliant spot by my wife.

The flags (red and red/yellow) mean Lifeguards are on patrol. You should only swim or surf in the area between the flags if they are red/yellow. The solid red flag means it is dangerous to bathe or swim and you should not go into the water.
