For me it should be like this: Smaller missiles are blazing fast and agille, so they outmaneuver and outrun any ship, Im talking like something between 1500 to 2000m/s for the size 1. But they are extremelly succeptible to countermeasures (cuz they have smaller seeker and computers). That way the enemy have a very small window of reaction and they have to flare them off, otherwise they will certainly hit. The bigger missiles / torps, should be fast but not nearly as fast, so Im talking something like 600 to 900m/s. But they should be extremelly resilient against countermeasures, having bigger, more sophisticated seekers. So they would require s lot more decoys to miss, but as they arent very maneuverable, smaller ships can easily outmaneuver them, but bigger ships will rely on point defense for dealing with them.

Alternatively, just let players choose a type of missile that's either fast, nimble and maybe not as powerful or a slow nuke that only hits a paraplegic if he isn't paying attention for all sizes.

@@strongback6550 yes Iwas going to enter in the missiles diversification withing sizes... but it's already hard enough for them to balance it up in the basis... diversificaion seems too complicated right now. But in the end we should have stealth missiles which dont really give much signature, but they are slower and do less damage. I mean whats the point in having an stealth bomber if you dont have stealth torps right? We could have heavy damage missiles but less agile, and others very agile but less damaging, etc.

missiles really should be faster then nearly everything, maybe torpedoes can be beaten from the racer type ships but still

Nah they still need to be fast. Maybe a tad slower than missiles but still fast. The difference is that Torpedoes can't turn like missiles. Thats why Torps are great for larger ships like hammerhead and above.

I believe this is more of an attempt to lower all their speeds to help with missile desync and landing on a target data gathering. Then adjust them back up to where it's not as bad as it has been with desync and missing their target. As he pointed out in a post, this was a temporary thing and will be adjusted again.

They make a new ship, which flies like a dream, fights like a dream, smooth as glass. So it brings record sales. Then, after the sales are over, Nerf it to hell, for "game balancing", so you either melt it, or ccu it, They keep your money, either way, saying: we'll fix it: "sometime in the future", meanwhile... try this new shiney for more cash! The marketing team runs CIG. They know you will buy new ships, if you are unhappy with the old ones. ($$$)

I really would like a AC mode were we can do custom matches to play with a range of values they pick. have them set like 4 different sets of ship changes for us to test and give feed back what we like of each or one over the other.

They are testing this with missiles bc of the same reason we had our combat speeds lowered - the servers cant keep up with 700+ m/s speeds. Speeds that fast cause a ton of desync

they're not pushing back cargo/freight elevator stuff, the .2 patch is considered the q2 patch, which is always cooking around june and usually will be released mid July.

Torps should probably be slower though to enforce their use as a salvo fire stand-off weapon against big slow ships (but maybe not That slow). Especially now in the wake of Master Modes where you need to be in SCM speed to engage them. Your average Size 1 ship should be able to outrun a torpedo Easily & a Size 2 ship also once up to speed. Big multicrew ships should be sitting ducks and rely on active defenses to destroy incoming torps, which they should do easily (each turret should reliably destroy at least 1 torpedo). If one torpedo hits a cap ship it should be quite devastating, but it should require saturation of the target along a single vector. Torpedo ships should be actually niche as opposed to an easy way to farm ERTs, the only reason to use them should be part of combined arms against large boats. There should be very few instances where launching 1 or 2 torps at any ship scores a kill. The skill then shifting to creating the conditions whereby they score hits - such as the target systems being offline, stealth gameplay, saturation, etc.

Here's the thing, if they wanted to test if that was causing issues, that's fine. But like...tell us "We have temporarily lowered these speeds to test if issues were having were related to these speeds." Don't call it balance adjustment.

325A is still bugged also, and might mention again, this is the 2nd bigger patch in a row that missile mode does not work on the 325A. The previous patch they fixed it in the .1 build but not with this patch. Not only is it not fixed in the .1 patch, it's still not fixed in the .1a ptu build.

In the future there will be more advanced countermeasures to missiles, like jamming the onboard radar system a missile carries or creating a fake heat sig/em sig as examples, why not expand on that while keeping missiles powerful as intended and capable of firing from longer ranges than the present?

The missiles look ridiculous many times, what you see is orbiting the ships, what they should do is explode when they fail and do some damage when they explode nearby and when it is direct it is a full damage, not a dance of missiles that do not explode at all. Unless they don't move.

I heard someone is talking about Cpt_Foxyloxy, so I stop by to give my thanks..many many thanks! Yep, he is happy most of the time, but for this one, he was really Salty just like someone who called Mike 😆 Playing fire and catch with those torps was quite a fun game, and either way you are playing a game whether shoot and kill or shoot and catch. However, jokes aside, really hope and believe eventually they will get it right, but as a community we must keep our voice loud and heard. That is all. o7

In reality, there's one (SR-71) or two(?) aircraft that can out run a missile so CIG should have missiles travel at twice sub-light speeds or 50% faster than the fastest existing ship? ;-)

I think cargo is supposed to go to Evo around the same time or early in the week so it isn't being really pushed back since it has to hit evo first. I do wish they would get that out sooner rather than later and not worry about Xeno at this point.

@SaltEMike, I'm in agreement with one of your twitch commenters on this one (for once): Thorsten hurriedly responded to the Spectrum flameage saying they'll [slightly] un-nerf missile speeds ... but only based on *CIG's realisation that this ridiculous nerf would seriously impact Polaris sales* and the spectre of a LOT of ppl with Polaris JPEG in their hangar melting them. If it was _truly_ an experimental change, I expect the patch note would have said: "Experimental balance change". All that said, I'd _like_ to think CIG wants to get the missile gameplay "right" - as well as the ship-to-ship combat. I wonder if they'll be taking _another_ leaf out of E:D's book, this time with respect to missile velocities and flight. 😂

Seems like missle primary use ought to be trying to shoot down people trying to flee in the quantum mode, I was picking up cargo in a hull-a and a blood thirsty cutlass showed up and tried to end me, I just swapped flight modes and kicked on the after burner, with a little bit a weaving he couldn't touch me with his lasers I like the idea of missles being the poor man's quantum denial

If it was only for them to test some bugs, then why he clarifies that torps still get slower (514 from 560)? If the speed of the missiles wasn't under the adjustment but something they tried to catch, then why not bring all the speeds back to how they were before? I think they actually tried to low-key nerf missiles, but they went overboard so much and decided to not deal with the backlash, so they got them to almost as they were before.

Thanks for the video! 👍 I don't think they are pusing back the "cargo-updates" for an event. There was a "message-of-the-day" recently where they told that they have fixed major issues - but there are still some issues remaining which with they won't to release it. (If the event would be connected to a sale - well then they might have bound it to it for sure.) And yes - this is the typically CIG communication we all know for years. 🙄 (They should have comunicated at least with a sentance in the patch notes that the missle adjustments where just a testing thing - but yes - this is "CIG-communication" as we know and love it! 🤣) Have a nice weekend! 🙂☀

just looking at the first few minutes my thoughts are basicly pressure. If you can shoot missiles and have them follow behind you then you can have more missiles on targets on approach in numbers and the talk about entering nav mode to out run them instead of counter measures. that means you are giving up your shields and ability to fight to run which means i can shoot you for free.

I published a funny 3D on Spectrum without insults or other, about Missiles and speed, full of Meme: almost 100 likes, hundreds of views, dozens of answers, and immediately got the 3D deleted and me banned... Totally worth it! 🤣🤣🤣 Nightrider will ban you even if you sneeze anyway! He was such in a rush that initially charged me for a post I made almost 2 years ago, then 10 minutes later he redacted it 🤣

yeah im not aware of that at all, 3.23.2 was always going to be cargo, and that is already being tested far as I know, not sure where this idea about the .a patch maybe ptu, whatever the case is, 3.23.2 was known to be coming by mid june maybe end of june.

Not to doubt their words but the very next patch note still talks about it in terms of 'balancing' and still nerfs the shit out of torps... actions speak louder than words. Especially if there are no words shared in the first place.

Granted the patch notes should of just had that little blurb in it to begin with, but seriously anyone freaking out about it has the common sense of a coked up chicken. The second I saw it, I immediately knew it was most likely just something they needed to get out there to trouble shoot issues with them. It was funny more than anything. Its not like missiles and torpedos have been the super reliable go-to weapon for ship to ship combat. Things have been on again and off again for literal years. They've never been great, ever.. not even close to the point of being laughable at how bad they are in practice. So this little change was just funny. Heres hoping that one day they actually get them in a place where you can reliably use them, I just don't see it happening until the plethora of server based issues have been addressed sometime after server meshing is in place.

Missiles already hit like BB guns before, now they are wheelchair bound BB guns. I'll say for the 100th time, if they want a game about dogfights and people.not running away just make missiles behave life AIM 9Bs, deadly, caged seeker, can only track from behind, so they at least have a FUNCTION - kill runners.

To be fair, dev on this game is wild, there are so many moving parts. Many times these changes happen so fast, communication is not the first priority. Communication takes time, especially well curated, so that would mean a delay in making some changes. Many times you will not get communication on things moving fast and that are this complex and large. That's just the reality. Its like if you had to write up a paragraph on why your going to the grocery store every time you go to the store. Even when you don't go to the store you're being asked when and why all the time. Communication is always the thing any business points to when there is no obvious issue to why someone wasn't aware, or a change happened someone doesn't agree with. Fact is sometimes you have to just pull the trigger and deal with the fallout. Otherwise nothing would get done because you always have to talk to someone first. I am aware this is not the PC answer in corporate circles, its like the dirty words scrawled in a rest stop bathroom stall.

I mean, also, this game is developed mostly by a bunch of passionate nerds. Passionate nerds are great at many things. Communication is not one of them. I do understand that it's a difficult task to track everything and communicate it well. They should still try to work on that.

I think what CIG needs to learn is that words have meaning. Shocker I know. But when they do things like say "Rentals"... when it is really just consumables and cash... it causes unnecessary confusion. So maybe the solution is to choose their words more carefully and give more accurate descriptions.

It's interesting that cig hasn't indoctrinated the "who, what, when, where, and why" scenario for every subsection of any test they do. Who are the playerbase that will be most affected by this test; what is this test for; when shen should these test results be implemented; where should these tests be taking place (space, atmo,etc); why are these test taking place;...?

I can't help but feel like this is backpedaling. I wanna give them the benefit of the doubt, but all it would have taken to *prevent* this whole debacle is preface it with "We are temporarily..." People saying "WELL IT'S PTU, WHY SHOULD THEY HAVE TO SAY TEMPORARY, IT'S THE TEST SERVER"... Yeah, and we saw how well that went when they changed medbeds, tested it for a day, didn't make sure the distance limit was properly in place, and pushed it live with minimal feedback. So yeah, it's understandable for folks to get frustrated or worried about it - CIG has a bad habit of not communicating clearly, and being pretty tightlipped about what feedback they're taking or when they basically just want people to shut up and accept the change. I wasn't frustrated about the change, as I never use missiles or torps. I was more annoyed that it turned Spectrum/Reddit into an even bigger shitshow than it already is for a solid 24 hours before someone from CIG piped up and said "WHOOOPS. It was temporary, sorry!".

I don't believe for a second that the speed reduction for torpedos was not intended. They 100% wanted that. All missiles have their speed reduced, but not as drastic. And the INCREASE of minnimum lock ranges has nothing to do with whats causing any problem. Minnimum lock ranges should have been reduced, not increased. Size 1 missiles are also almost half their speed now. And you will see that they will not get their old speeds back. They are only going up back to 500 because they are afraid of people refunding the freshly bought Retaliators Harbingers and Polaris. It was most certainly not a miscommunication, they wanted to balance missiles for Mastermodes, everything goes slower so missiles should too is their thinking. And you will see that I am right when only the torpedos have their speeds reset to their old values and not the rest of the missiles also.

Making minimum lock ranges smaller won't necessarily lead to more successful missile deployments. For instance if your missile has a 1.5 sec arming time and a 1100 meter minimum lock range, and a 1000 m/s speed, then realistically you'd need to fire from AT LEAST 1500m away anyway to ensure that the missile is even armed by the time it reaches the target. In that case you need to consider arming time of missiles. Likewise, speed isn't always key, in that missiles don't always need to be 'as fast as possible' to work. They need to have a good turn radius relative to whatever speed they're going in order to stay on target, especially anti-fighter missiles. They're not afraid of the refunds on those ships, because you only get store credit back, so your money is already in the game anyway. When it comes to MM balance, there is a line to draw in their effectiveness. If missiles are blazing fast from very tight proximity that would, with or without master modes make them very difficult to deal with, especially since one successful size 2 missile impact in the right spot can completely disable a hornet for example (it has happened to mine multiple times.) There can very easily be layers of miscommunication in a large project like this. To assume that this is them intentionally poisoning the well to swing around the nerf hammer for basically no reason on a system that already doesn't work half the time is really a questionable choice. I think that many peoples' arguments are laced with a bit too much cynicism. Everything is in flux, and that's kind of what active development can look like sometimes.

truth is - CIG ruined whole gameplay. x3 starfaer ganks on 7k bounty is out of any comment, literally nothing pays back because rewards are super small and they don't even care to fix dupe bug. torpedoes are extremely useless now and also got a "money waste function" because every attempt to shoot costs you 3,8k. 3.2 patch is not even implemented fully, servers are made of potatoes but they announced another patch!

no going on your own servers will not give you a wide scope data set of pvp ttk and evasion stats, it's in the bleeding edge build, whining about bleeding edge makes zero sense because you literally know the patch will bleed, if you have access to it, it's because they want your feedback, whining about stuff being broken in a dev environment is also pointless because you have zero idea what dependencies there are in the patch and no level of communication is going to tell you that unless you physically work there and can see the database and the entities.

Playing devils advocate here. I believe missles will go through a lot of balances until it feels right. This is just one extreme being tested. Remember Chris wanted large ship combat to feel more like sea combat between war ship. Big slow moving ships that turn and volley shoots. An eclipse is not made to take out an arrow and light fighters. All this missles in space reality nonsense needs to be balanced with their intentions for combat between small through capital ships. They will not have size 7 - 10 be able to easily take out any fighter. Ships will have more defined roles and you may need to be part of a squadron in battles. Medium or larger fighters attacking a polaris distracting it whill an eclipse launches a torpedo. Polaris needs to now make a decision on who the bigger threat is. Maybe they add point defense systems to target missles and you need to decide between a turret to handle fighters and a point defense for missles. An eclipse should not be able to one vs one most things with ease. People want the do it all ship that can kill a hammerhead and also take out small nible ships. From everything they stated thats not the game they are trying to make. Large missles or torpedo are for large targets or catching players off gaurd who are not paying attention. Now you have to out run a missle while trying to dodge fighters. Pay too much attention to the fight amd the missle may sneak up on you. Who knows. All I know from over the years is large balancing shift happen. Realize what the end goal is and role of ship you are buying. Not the current meta or you will get frustrated to no end.

because a torp in water is absolutely going to equate to the same physics as a torp in 0 gravity and a vacuum. Not asking for physics real here but how about we don't go all the way to loony toons daffy duck.

Most ships in WW2 weren't out running torpedoes. Torpedoes were generally between 40 and 50 knots. A fletcher class DD was 36 knots

@@nip3004 The comparison is idiotic. On all levels. If they want to go with decreasing the speed that should be only at launch with increased velocity as the weapon travels, otherwise shut the propulsion off and make its IR signature drop. With increase velocity decrease it's maneuverability. IR and EM targeting are passive systems, cross section targeting is an active system (ie radar) so that could be where your missile warnings come from. This direction of making them a minor distraction in a combat is as far as I see it. Simply wrong.

Not sure you can blame this all on CIG. Everything gets balanced and changed over and over. But the backers freak the hell out when anything changes and they draw up the worst possible conclusions. I've been guilty of this as anyone. But perhaps we should pay a little less attention to every little detail they change.

this is kinda misleading SC is testing a lot back and fought don't know if Star citizen use LEAN but by LEAN standards it's wishful to always test new things to better something, if it works keep it, learn from it and progress more if it fails dump it learn from it and progress. to state star citizen is ruining missiles....
