Legionnaire really needs deployable cover. Halo: CE in the first mission had enemy boarding pods without cover; toss in a grenade and laugh. Those made for some of the easiest kills in the game. I don't think players would appreciate experiencing the receiving end of that.
@romanwiller21804 ай бұрын
I don’t think the problem with 3.23 was the amount of new features, I think it was the massive scope of the changes. They have effectively taken 50% or so of the current game and updated it with new stuff. I think if they took the same amount of people and only focused on the mobiglass and MM, they would have completed all of it without a problem. Effectively they just cast too wide a net
@Dorm_4 ай бұрын
They always do this, with everything. I wish they would release a patch and tell us after what that patch is all about, instead of teasing us for 7 months multiple times a week, that way when 3.23 would release it would be new to all of us. Now I do not have any interest in playing. Maybe i will try when personal hangar comes in just to see how thehy will be.

Okay, but they've always said they take the time to do things systemically at first to make it all simpler in the future. Do you see that happening at all? That's the where a lot of the valid frustration comes from.
@RN14414 ай бұрын
@5:30 When you're saying that the reason 3.23 has turned out so bad is because there was 'too much stuff and they couldn't handle it', I think there's a more nuanced way of describing it. Look down the list of stuff and a lot of it was padded visual fluff like 'a crosshair that points where you are actually aiming' that made the list look long. As usual though they're doing great on graphical changes like making mobiglass slightly less hard to read, getting close to a working star map, functional looting screens, and even art assets for locations like those cargo centres isolated in the middle of nowhere, but the actual games systems advances are limited to fuse swapping at present. In summary, it's still a big patch FOR CIG, but as usual with CIG their efforts are mostly towards the flash, while substance struggles.

I am a big supporter of the project. Been around over 10 years, and I'll continue to support the project until I don't. There are parts of SC that are incredibly fun. That said, they haven't shown me anything that makes me even remotely confident they can make this into something that's not a mess. The game generates too much data to efficiently process on server and on net. I'm sure server meshing will help, but it's not going to magically make the experience acceptably smooth. For fks sake we are looking at a 15 year plus development timeframe, and we don't really know what anything is actually going to look like. Everybody just imagines it's going to be what they want. I really wish they'd get real on some of these fantasies and give an honest review of what they can and cannot do in a reasonable amount of time. Quit stringing people along with bullshit they know they can't do- well at least. --Remember this is the same company that flat out faked a sandworm... had vertical slices of SQ42 in what 2018... have near initial concept ships that are nowhere in sight... they will tell a tale to keep people excited and spending. Hope they make it all happen to the majorities expectations.
@Billy-bc8pk4 ай бұрын
They can't tell people what a "reasonable amount of time" is because they literally do not know. They had to R&D half a dozen brand new networking technologies that literally did not exist anywhere in the software industry to scale until CIG made them. How long did that take them? Eight years. Why? because some of what they thought would work did not. How were they supposed to know some of what they researched did not or would not scale? It's not stringing people along, it's called software engineering, and when you are working on technologies with no blueprint, there is no way to tell anyone exctly when anything will be done if they don't know how long it's going to take to make and scale it. And all they have are estimates, and whenever they give anyone estimates people get angry because the estimates aren't "accurate", which is precisely why no company gives the public estimates about R&D they're working on and why it's so kept under wraps with NDAs.
@Jeremy_Walker4 ай бұрын
@@Billy-bc8pk Thank you for your thoughts. SQ42 has how many of these technologies? It’s been the same story there. I can appreciate the difficulty of some of what they are doing. I feel it’s a real disingenuous play to hype shit up all the time - almost there… just around the corner. Heard that same lame ass story for over a decade.
@Billy-bc8pk4 ай бұрын
@@Jeremy_Walker SQ42's success directly impacts Star Citizen -- and as many more reasonable content creators have explained, even if they released SQ42 back in 2016, the PU was not in a state for public consumption. CIG would have ruined their own reputation as people would have played SQ42, and then become disappointed with the broken and buggy PU. They need the PU in a solid beta state for SQ42's launch, because a bunch of top creators have already said they are planning on playing/streaming it. What do you think many people will do once they finish the SQ42 campaign? Carry their character over to the PU. And if the PU is a broken, buggy, incomplete state, what do you think that will do to the general perception of the project and its future success?
@Jeremy_Walker4 ай бұрын
@@Billy-bc8pk That makes sense. It's not so much the underlying why they are doing things, more so the representation. If they were truly upfront with things and not selectively upfront it'd be easier to fully support. I also get their dilemma. They must keep people engaged and buying ships to keep the doors open- which leads to over promising and selective misleading. CIG execs know damn well what is in the realm of probability and what is not. They are more willing to BS and be purposefully vague to keep funding than to risk being truly upfront. It's a tactic not accidental. That's that biggest thing- Love the concept of the project, but have huge mixed feelings about the management.
@Billy-bc8pk4 ай бұрын
@@Jeremy_Walker That's partially true. The other problem is that -- as evident by the general public's reaction to anytime CIG announces delays for any reason -- most people cannot handle the truth. In fact, they just announced that freight elevators would be delayed to a point patch because stability was not where it needed to be and instability of the freight elevators meant no one could play the game at all because the hangars were not working, so what did most of the commenters do? Rant and rave and complain about CIG breaking promises, that 3.23 is worthless without freight elevators, and that the feature is never coming. Even though it's delayed by a few weeks. You have to realistically ask yourself, as management, and trying to bring this behemoth project across the finish line, just how honest should you be with the general public when places like Polygon/Kotaku and various content creators and plenty of redditors are ready to call the project a "scam" due to delays or rally a group to pull funding like they did back between 2015 and 2017? Be honest, if you were in charge of the project, what would you honestly tell the publicly when dealing with delays and setbacks, or R&D hurdles, especially when outlets are ready to rip you a new one for it?

I found the Marok movement to be well done but the Kopions (lol - named so that you just Cope for now) are stuck to the ground. My guess is that the Kopion AI has more complexity therefore server performance jams them up and not the simple Maroks. Missions with 'OR' = JT box delivery, and one of the mission givers at Levski you could double cross by delivering items to another place when Ruto contacted you.

4.0 w/Pyro targeted for summer is the last official thing we've heard. I thought meshing tests went super well. For me Pyro doesn't need to be super dense on first iteration, so I can see them accomplishing their goal. Sounds like they might want maelstrom in 4.0 though, and I can guess bounty hunter v2, EVA push/pull and other more technically challenging features could be planned. I do kind of agree 3.23 was too big, I hope they focus on a good work environment and not on meeting unreasonable deadlines planned out earlier this year through dev crunching.

But you need to understand that they need to deliver feature fast in order to complete the game, even if it means that the game is broken. The fact that they have to maintain an stable alpha is probably the main reason why the game takes so much Time to be made. --> most of the backer are not playing the game, they just wait for a "finished" mvp product.
