I am from Australia and I have been living in Almaty for 11 years. I would add that the best time to visit Kazakhstan is mid March to enjoy Nauryz celebrations. The weather is nice for walking around the parks at that time. Summer is too hot and winter is too cold in Kazakhstan to be comfortable. Another "don't" in KZ is; don't talk about politics/government. In western countries it is fine to engage local people in the topic and ask what they think (they will freely tell you)......not in KZ! avoid it.

I am Kazakh. Nothing bad will happen if you come on time. I hate being late and I hate waiting for the others. For example, if I invite you to my place by 18:00 (6 p.m.), I expect you to be at that time, neither earlier nor later.

Glad somebody feels like I do. Time is very limited. I work alot of the day away. So my remaining time is very limited. So I make plans to maximize my remaining time in the day. I find it a little disrespectful if people are hours late. 5 or 10 minutes is ok. But if you're hours late....I'm sorry, but my party is probably about to end because of my limited time.

"Dont come on time!". I was invited in a "Kuz Uzatu" when i was in Kazahkstan and it was written on the invitation that the ceremony is at 5pm. Good thing my colleague at school told me not to come on time, instead come later at around 7pm😂! And guess what, the actual ceremony started at 8pm😂. I've been living in Kazakhstan for almost 10 years, married to a Kazakh woman, and (for what matters) I can confirm everything. I love it here, overall life is in my opinion better than in Europe. The big plus is that despite their problems Kazakhstan and its people still have a soul (contrary to a good deal of the Western world).

Lived in Astana for 5 years, and it was the most awesome experience in another nation. Winters up to -50's and summers up to +40's in some places. I got friends there who are like my own family. I love them all so much. I learned a lot from their traditions. Most Kazakh's value family and their relationships, and still have honour and respect towards each other. I never heard them gossiping about their friends or family. They have good reports of all around them and support each other. There are "bad" women who don't respect other's marriages, and people who just want to be bad, but I never met them, just heard about them. Back in my country now, I miss Kazakhstan and would love to live there forever. I love that sincere nation. They have been exposed to the influence of the Western World the past 4 years, and many things changed. But I know deep down in their soul, they will stay "virgin" at heart. Love you all beautiful Kazakhstan..

We have some similar traditions that you mentioned in Saudi Arabia 🇰🇿 🇸🇦 Like: - Taking shoes off before entering house (if you enter with your shoes it's disrespectful, it's like if you lack morals) - Its nice, but not a must to buy anything even if its cheep before visiting other homes. (if you don't we totally understand! ) - We welcome guests - Need to come on time if its personal meeting, or its okay to come on time or be late like 1 hour to 2 hour (invite) while trying to make everything ready for guests - We share same religion Islam - If you don't like any food or drink, you can say it gently or just don't eat it lol... don't say ewww and childish things. and you can tell us if you want more or less sugar, if you want coffee or tea or juice... anything (more than welcome to give or feed the guests) I really like and love how proud you're of your country and culture, and how your not sugar coating things.

About your last advise... I fully agree. I visited Kazakhstan in the summer of 2019 and spent two weeks. It was not enough time. It felt like I had to rush from one place to the next and I still missed all of the west and the east. (I really want to see those sand dunes and rainbow mountain formations I've heard about.) I only spent two days in Almaty and visited Charyn Canyon (awsome!) but I could easily have been in Almaty alone for a whole week. Such a gorgeous city. I will definitely be back.

Fun Fact: Most of the Kazakh scenes in Borat were filmed in Romania. I thought the movie was hilarious but the guy who made it was known as an English Jewish comedian who does deep dives in to his characters. In other words, he lives and breathes the personas he creates when he does different characters in movies and on TV and stage. I knew what he was doing was satire and even slapstick and was nowhere near true. In fact, a lot of his "Kazakh" words were a mix of Yiddish and especially Polish, which I understood some of! Oh well. From what I've seen and learnt about Kazakhstan I think it's a really interesting country, and I've really enjoyed your entrants in Junior Eurovision as well. I wish Finland would participate. Anyway, I've just scratched the surface on your country. I look forward to learning more. ;)

as a man who was born, still in the Soviet Union (theoretically). I am well aware of the Kazakhs and their character. My grandfather was an exile in Kazakhstan although he is no longer among the living he told how the Kazakhs shared food with the deportees and helped them survive. My dad served in the Soviet Army and responded about the Kazakhs as great soldiers and non-aggressive guys (did not cling to soldiers of other nationalities) what the Caucasians and Tajiks did when there were many of them. as he named the most cultured people of Central Asia. And Borat is a mockery filmed in Romania even in landscapes unlike Kazakhstan. I wish the Kazakhs all the best and thank you for helping our compatriots in difficult times. We do not forget the good and the bad. Therefore, as a Lithuanian, I will always and everywhere really help the Kazakh and help him. Salam aleikum Казактар!

TLDR version. You're welcome 1: don't make Borat jokes 2: don't whistle inside homes ( superstition about loosing money) 3: like other asian countries leave shoes outside home 4:dont be rude about their food, these are proud people. 5: don't advertise your from the US because your prices will be doubled, (standard practice as a tourist you should already know this. other countries are like this too.) 6: people speak khazak and russian. You will be lost if you only know english, especially outside the two biggest cities. 7: be careful talking to khazak girls are bars or clubs, bc some khazak men think women are their property ( try to refrain from rule 1 as you read this ). 8: dont argue or try to make a point with khazak people ( she seemed to be refering to the men) - they might stab you. 9: people will invite you to dinner but don't go empty-handed ( you should follow this rule everywhere btw ) 10: DO NOT go to events on time, if the wedding/party is at 5-6 that means you go at 8 pm. ( this applied in other countries like india as well) 11: you can enter mosques but be respectful. 12: Large country, very beautiful, lots of natural beauty- try to make it at least a month-long trip ( imo unrealistic I would do maybe a week or two )

Cuz we are low people country and our genetic are also unique because our ancestors knew how to save our genetics. 8. I don't think stab, Fight maybe, but no stab. I was in Almaty and Astana in 2017. (To get married with a Kazakhstan woman ) All these 11 things not to do overthere seem to me as normal. I loved the food ,the hospitality and friendlyness of the people . It is true ,as a french canadian man ,marrying one of their woman (and the prettiest) I did felt some coldness from the man overthere, but nothing where I would feel bad. Mostly, the mixed architecture, historical richness ( dont forget i am from a 450 years old country) but the smile ,laugh, curiousness of the people overthere made me love the people there. I hope to go back ,and actively learning russian language. Poka poka.

Hi Salta! I want to congratulate you for such a nice video. Very informative. In regards of the superstition about whistling, I can tell you that my Russian grandfather always disliked that someone would whistle in his house. The reason to reject whistling was the same: a popular belief that if someone whistles in a house, there is no money. At the end, I never learn how to whistle. My Best Wishes to you.

Your videos are informative and entertaining. Thank you. I was surprised to find out via my DNA tests, that my paternal lineage has Y-Chromosome DNA origins in Kazahkstan! Basically: 2 major Asian conquests of Northern and Western Europe. in the 1700s to mid 1800s Irish migrants arrived in North America. A distant Irish Harvey and either his wife or slave gave birth to my great-great grandfather...the rest I know already. I am planning to visit the country. Reading up on Kazahkstan, watching travel guides, youtube, and the like. Will consult with the embassy for visas and more info. Since I am an old guy, I will stick with the guided tours and restaurants for the most part. I make friends easily, so I should not have issues meeting and getting to know folks. Your "do's & don't" videos are a real treat. I subscribed and liked and belled (for notifications). Thanks again. All the best. Gotta check out that vid on 2nd wives again... lol

I have traveled a lot and have always been respectful of the local culture even if they're not respectful back so I am glad you mentioned that businesses were trying to inflate prices for Americans. I've experienced that in one other country, Bulgaria, and even though I have friends there I will never go back. Money doesn't fall from the skies in the US and the average person works very hard to earn their wage. It's unfortunate that this goes on as I would have loved to visit Kazakhstan on my way to see friends in Mongolia. Wish you all the best.

Hi, it's nice to know that you guys are great in hospitality, in having an ingrained culture and that you are really committed in education and safety as well. Kazakhstan is a beautiful land. However, I notice that mostly all reservations that you guys have is sourced in the very same reason: the common sense is so overestimated that is no room left for the minority voices that goes against that. If you pay attention to it, the reason why Kazaks will not receive well criticism about their food or Kazak people cannot complain about his president and the government tracks down Kazaks private online activity is the very same - you don't want to live with opposition and this is very bad to democracy, and it is more important than everything else because without freedom of speech everything else is useless.
