Thanks so much Rachel! And to think, this was the 4th time I tried to record this after forgetting my mic, and other issues! Keep going forward.

I agree with you because I had a saltwater tank and my friend had a freshwater tank I used the API saltwater test kit on the fresh water tank and it was the same reading so I was chasing numbers until I changed my test kits which was redsea and everything was good
@reefrookiesАй бұрын
Yeah I’ve seen that happen a lot. Thanks for watchin!!

Dont turn the heater all the way up just set it 2 degrees above your temperature controller as a fail safe for your temperature controller

Really good point. Im gonna remove that statement. I back mine up with Hydros too but still. Thx

I use lace rock for the most basic setup, but my alternative would be the colored "live" rocks with fake coralline algae. I've never had these develop green hair algae as much as I would with those white base rocks. Also, people don't realize how they do not actually have to follow the 1-2lbs rule for live rock. With lace rock, it's easy to make more natural-looking underhangs and cave structures (those purple rocks don't look very natural to me tbh). I enjoy the look of small islands with distance between them. We've come quite a way's away from the "rock walls" of the early 2000's.

Yes we definitely have!!

I am starting a new system, and breaking down an old one, that is a year old... but should I use that rock? its covered with some type algae which is the reason I am breaking the system down...
@reefrookiesАй бұрын
Dark Cure that rock in saltwater with heat and flow but zero light. Itll kill all the algae and be good. This can take a month or more.

@@reefrookies its probably already got some good stuff on it, just need to get rid of whatever algae is on there... which in the display, seems to be immune to both dino x and H202. brown, stringy, mat covering everything, with a single bubble on some of the strands, and unlike some other algae I have had this DOES grow on the corals and they do not like it. any idea what this might be? I guess its time for me to get a microscope... flashback to my marine biology degree days long ago...
@reefrookiesАй бұрын
@@xisotopex Look up Chrysophytes, very similar look to Dinos.

API is what the LFS sold me and I had normal readings.. I thought… but started getting algae couldn’t understand why, got my salifert test kit … nitrates were off the chart and now fighting to bring it back down. Take this advice get an adequate test kit it will save you headaches
@reefrookiesАй бұрын
They really should remove it. I wouldnt sell it if I had a store myself and any self respecting store shouldnt either.

The KZbinr, the caveman, set up a Marine Aquarium using tap water to prove a point. Not something I would do.

Im not going to speak Ill of another content creator, but I know what you're speaking on. I personally wouldn't have done that myself either. There is a reason those of us who've been doing this for decades dont use tap water! Thanks for watching.

Hannah salinity is trash btw.
@reefrookiesАй бұрын
You're not the first person to say that for sure. Ive heard it quite a bit. I use a refractometer which has never failed to calibrate properly.
@MykhailoPetrenko_hckАй бұрын
@@reefrookies agreed, the issue with Hannah - it’s always off for me, even after calibration not a rare case. I’ve almost nuked my tank, glad had no corals at that time. Switched to Tropic Marin high precision hydrometer, never had issues since. I am too lazy to deal with refractometer, the hydrometer is much easier imo, just put it in, wait a bit, check, rinse, put back to storage:) Great content, btw.
@reefrookiesАй бұрын
@MykhailoPetrenko_hck thanks. Ive been considering a hydrometer myself.
