As a mostly night time angler, whether on fly or gear, I love flies that I can work extra slow in dark colors. My go to is a Dragon Tail Deceiver (the “pipe cleaner” style dragon tail- not the curly tail) in all black. The tail doesn’t need to do much but a slight wiggle and the fish can feel it in the water and find it. Even holds onto some tiny bubbles that release slowly while you drift it along. Double S tier for me 😍 Great video nice to see the fly anglers represented

Great video, one thing that I think that also is important to note when choosing a fly is where are you fishing. Are you on a beach, on a jetty or on a boat. I think that throwing a Beast fly would be a lot easier from the back of a boat than say standing on a beach or on a Jetty with cross wind.

You are 100% correct on that one!

Consider the Eel Punt and similar eel imitations. Killer in Maine in low light conditions.

Eel imitation is definitely missing from this list! Although I’ve seen Coby spin up some nice eel flat wings. What ranking would you out the eel punt in?

For me they’re an S, alongside sand eel, crab, shrimp, and Deceiver-type (esp. mackerel) baitfish patterns. I’ve done well enough with eel punts in daylight situations to elevate them out of C.
