I grew up fishing that Marina. Through the 80's, all my summer holidays were spent on those arms, before it was developed. There was one tackle shop and a long way to walk for food. Dropped off by my Dad early AM on the way to work and picked up on his way home. Met so many people. Such memories but not of massive catches. At all but we made it such a blast.

I have similar memories of the 80's and southparade pier in Southsea, back then all I knew were rag worm and limpets, ah those were the days. 👍

I am stunned by the technological and material developments developed for fishing. I assume this has had to happen because of the fish getting wise to the simple methods we used to use.

I've also blanked at the East Pier at Brighton Marina. I have quite a list of great venues where I've blanked... 🤣😂🤣 I do have some chinese prawns coming in the post - they do look great some of them. Bound to catch (a fish I mean - they've already caught me). Nice to see a good variety of venues Matt. Not heard a peep from Dungeness in months - anyone catching there?
@SaltwaterAngler Жыл бұрын
Anyone .. yea that venue owes me a few fish

Not related to the breakwater fishing, but circa 1980 when the Marina was newish, my Work's sea fishing club booked a trip out of there. Only time I caught Sea Bream if I remember rightly. Also I remember seeing the Boeing hydrafoil service in action and a rare spot of a RN jet engined Vosper Perkasa Torpedo Patrol Boat moored there. Three dustbin lid sized exhaust covers on its stern - fabulous!

Hi Matt, love the channel and yes I'm subscribed, I'm 58 now and just getting back into a bit of leisure angling, and I'm liking the look of lure fishing, I'm going to the Isle of Mull in a few weeks and I'm all geared up, and thanks to your channel I think I have a much better understanding, there are supposed to be quite a few hot spots around the island for mackerel and bass so I'm going to have a few sessions, I'm actually rather excited, especially now I have a little bit of your knowledge. I will say I'm going to be watching a lot more of your channel that's for sure. Martin in Portsmouth 👍

Interesting Matt, I like the look of those prawn imitations. Regards the SG seeker - I used a 23 gram green/white one yesterday in my local creek. It accounted for my best bass of the year so far at 62 cm !
@SaltwaterAngler Жыл бұрын
Get in ! I think sometimes we disregard metals when they can be fished at any depth plus that extra casting distance
@SolentAngler Жыл бұрын
Seems to be the killer at that spot at the moment for some reason. I've tried soft plastics, surface lures, shallow divers etc. Without much interest.
@raedabusanad Жыл бұрын
Notjing can beat the casting distance of metal lures. I always have 1 or 2 cheap ones without the rear treble to scan new marks for snags first thing.
@kerryfoster1 Жыл бұрын
I walked out there the other day and there were stacks of mullet on the inside! Yes if you fish inside you get BANNED! IF you park at the small (free) carpark just off the main Rd at Roedean it only takes 10 minutes to walk to the East breakwater down the slope. I've got my bus pass now and the stop is right by the slope 😂😂😂
@SaltwaterAngler Жыл бұрын
Thanks Kerry good tips there. I parked in the multi story but it’s officially limited to 4 hours but you can argue that your a marina user keep your fishing receipt

Those seekers fly don’t they, I’ve still only caught Mackerel on them. Thanks for your advice on the live Q & A about lures for fishing off of large boulder sea defences. Last time out I used a white savage gear weedless sandeel with a 15g head and caught 3x Bass to 56cm in the dark, two fish hit the lure only 15ft out. Light jig heads 10-15g definitely help keep the lure running deeper down near the boulders where the fish are but not too heavy to snag in between. Perfect!

That’s what I want to hear Top work you understood and took action ! The sea defences can be tricky but that’s a good catch

Hi need some help again im in Buckinghamshire and only fresh water fish about the furthest point from the sea looking at getting a all round bass lure rod looking at savage gear sgs5 9.6ft / 9/35g or 9.6ft/12/46g Or the sgs2 long cast 9.6/10-40 or 15-- 50g which is £50 cheaper And will be ordering online as no tackle shop here sell sea rod have ordered the Shimano Nasci 2500HG you talked about
@SaltwaterAngler Жыл бұрын
A 2500 shimano reel is golden for my type of venue maybe 3500 if you want an all rounder. Similar with rods I’ll not need anything over 30g but maybe 35-40 if you want all rounder for deeper rock marks on the west coast of wales say. She range fine from the two rods I’ve used. Take a look at ABU or favourite brand for good value. Please check out my blog in the description of most videos where I give links and further advice to all these.
