*A huge thank you to everyone in Brazil for having me in your country and another huge thank you to everyone who has watched any of the videos!* Near the end of this video I give updates on the 2 fundraisers that we have done together that had big success thanks to you all. Many people in need in the Rochina Slum in Rio and the refugees in Manaus fleeing Venezuela have had their lives improved drastically thanks to your generosity. Join me next week for the next country, it is going to be wild. Leave your guesses of the country in a comment below and stay up to date on my Instagram here: instagram.com/indigo.traveller/ Cheers! You keep calling them Africans but they are now Brazilians like everybody else. Why you continue referring to them as Africans is beyond me. You were born in New Zealand but your ancestors would have most likely been British yet naturally you refer to yourself as a Kiwi because you were born there... the black population in Brazil works the same way. I love your videos because they are very real and insightful but the way you continued to refer to them bothered me. On a lighter note my family are from Guyana and it would be interesting to see your take on it as I have only ever been to George Town.

as a nigerian it would be very emotional for me to meet the African descendants of brasil, as many were taken from my own ancestors. and its really beautiful that many to this day speak our tribal language yoruba and cook nigerian food. they tried to take them away from their roots but they will always be family and survivors.
@nancyleal2529
@nancyleal2529 3 жыл бұрын
Sarah, there are many nigerians living in São Paulo city. I'm Brazilian and I'd say that Salvador, capital of Bahia state, is the only one that still keeps genuine African traditions in Brazil because there was not a big immigration to this city after the abolition. Rio de Janeiro is the second (samba and Carnival), but most was already lost by the miscigenation and immigration. Salvador has received more immigrants during the last decades, but not only Europeans and whites from other regions of Brazil, but also black Americans and Africans. So, there is a chance they are able to keep the culture of their ancestors.

If you don´t get rid of the false idea of "being taken away from your home" you won´t understand Brazilians, Jamaicans, Trinidadians, and all people from diverse nations that have understood they belong to the WHOLE World just as everybody else. Think of the Puritans, and all the members of religious sects and anticommunists that were expelled from their lands. The idea of been "different" comes from ignorance of ones true identity, and leads to enslavement to false beliefs. Take a look at videos of Earth from the Moon. You will see our Land, were we ALL belong as ONE race.

@@brianj1203 cause brazil's federal government invests in the south and southeast regions, where the populations are less black/mixed, and many are descendants of recent european imigrants, they even received free land to live in. historically, the north and northeast regions were forgotten by the authorities. it's literally a hell of a life being black in brazil, there may be racism in the us but nothing can compare with this casts-like system we have in brazil, that's why almost all brazilians of color i know want to leave the country and go to the us, although all the brazilians you may see living in miami are rich whites.
@cabeleramaster
@cabeleramaster 2 жыл бұрын
@@sacredtheban the issue is much deeper than that, the corruption is intrenched in all levels of the govermental structure. A lot of money is stolen in the process. I am not sure if that's just as common in other regions, but being from Salvador, a lot of people sell their votes to corrupt politicians and they do it for very cheap. The whole machine is very inefficient, and the resources are terribly mismanaged. They overcharge cheap materials for construction so they'll have to do maintenance more often. The other regions end up getting more money from the federal goverment, but on the other hand they generate most of the wealth in the country.

Nigeria and Brazil have some deep root connections because of the slave trade. I noticed the food you ate, we make that in Nigeria called Akara made of blended beans. There is a place in Lagos where some of the slaves from Brazil returned to Lagos...we have people in Nigeria with surnames called Da Silva etc...it’s an interesting history.

@@TheMDM1956 No country is the same. Many countries might be similar, but never the same. Each country has its unique vibe, culture, population, language and so on. That's the spirit of traveling: explore the similarities and the differences around the world. Your way of thinking that is strange. Why should I read a new book? It's made of pages like any other! Why should I watch a movie? It has actors like any other! Why should I leave my parents' house and move into my own? It's made of bricks like any other! Hahaha. Thank God the most part of mankind like to explore the world, if they thought like you, the human beings would be living in caves yet.

By 2021, the once-every-10-year survey that IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) makes was already 1 year late because of the pandemic, so the best thing we had were only estimates about the number of people living in the cities. Salvador had an estimate of around 3 million, but when the census was finally made in 2022, the real number turned out to be 2,417,678.
